- For the mirror universe counterpart, see Stephen Turner (mirror).
Grand Admiral Stephen Turner was a human Starfleet officer living in the 23rd century.
Biography[]
In the early 2280s, Turner was the administrator of the Starfleet Academy Command School. Although Cadet William Bearclaw had above average test scores, Turner rejected Bearclaw's candidacy to enter the school and become a command officer.
Turner's notes indicated that Bearclaw's behavioral problems in the cadet dormitories and tendencies toward xenophobic bigotry were the cause of the rejection, as well as Bearclaw's stubbornness. (ST comic: "Who's Who in Star Trek, Issue 1")
In 2285, Admiral Kirk went to Turner to request assignment as captain of the USS Enterprise. Turner stated that Starfleet had taken the ship away from Kirk twice and that was lesson enough even for him. (TOS comic: "The Wormhole Connection")
Following the destruction of the Enterprise in 2285, Turner ordered Captain Styles to assume command of the prototype USS Excelsior and bring Admiral Kirk back to Earth.
When Kirk later contacted him to inform him of the planned invasion of the Federation by the Terran Empire from the mirror universe he ordered Kirk to report back to Starfleet, which Kirk refused.
When reporter Lyndra Dean from the Proxima News Service published a story on Kirk's defense of the Federation against the Empire he had her brought to his office to find out where her information came from. However, she refused. (TOS - The Mirror Universe Saga comics: "... Promises to Keep", "The Tantalus Trap!", "Homecoming...")
