- "From the daughter of a Mad Titan to the champion of a multiversal war, Gamora's path to becoming the hero of her story began in someone else's."
- âThe Watcher[src]
Gamora Zen Whoberi Ben Titan is a Zehoberei who was raised by Thanos to become his fiercest assassin. Tasked with finding and killing Iron Man for thwarting her father's plans on Earth, Gamora ended up in the Grandmaster's captivity. She was forced to participate in his Grand Prix, during which Stark convinced her to stop following Thanos and become her own person. Gamora and Stark, who sought to stop Thanos and the continuing threat that the Mad Titan posed to his world, organized a trap for Thanos, which allowed Gamora to slay him for good.
Taking his armor and sword, Gamora and Tony Stark traveled to Nidavellir to destroy the Infinity Gauntlet. She was then recruited by The Watcher to join the assembled Guardians of the Multiverse to take down Ultron who had all six Infinity Stones. Gamora provided the team with the Infinity Crusher to destroy the Stones but due to the specifics of alternate universes, it did not work. The Guardians managed to defeat Ultron, as well as stop Arnim Zola and Erik Killmonger, after which Gamora returned to her universe and reunited with Stark.
Biography[]
Daughter of Thanos[]
- "I am the daughter of Thanos, the Mad Titan, the one burdened to bring balance to this universe."
- âGamora to Tony Stark[src]
Gamora was born on the planet Zen-Whoberi, which was invaded by Thanos. Thanos apporached the young Zehoberei and demonstrated balance by placing his blade on his finger. Thanos then held out his hand to Gamora. Gamora was then spared and adopted by the Mad Titan, who trained her to become a deadly assassin that would help him in his conquest to bring balance to the universe.[1]
Becoming Her Own Person[]
Hunting Tony Stark[]
Following the defeat of Thanos' army on Earth, Gamora was tasked with hunting down Tony Stark and killing him. Gamora was able to track Stark to Sakaar and attempted to kill him immediately. However, Gamora, along with Stark were captured by Grandmaster.
Gamora and Stark were locked up together in a room with a romantic decor, where she continued trying to kill Stark, only to be stopped by Korg. Gamora revealed who she was to Stark, before witnessing him escape the room with Korg, leaving her trapped. However, Gamora was able to break out and pursued Stark, but he activated the Obedience Disk on her neck. Gamora assured that Thanos would have his revenge on Stark for his victory against him, but Stark responded that there was no glory in seeing his home attacked. Stark decided to spare Gamora, instead wanting to prove her wrong by saving Sakaar.
Gamora was soon recaptured, but quickly eliminated the guards and forced Topaz to take her to Grandmaster. Gamora told Grandmaster she wanted Stark, who then publicly challenged Grandmaster to a race for Sakaar. Gamora advised Grandmaster against the challenge, but he accepted and was able to activate her Obedience Disk, telling her that she would be racing, too. Before the race commenced, Gamora was forced into a car, where she briefly spoke with Stark, who placed a device in her vehicle so they could communicate during the race.
During the race, Gamora was contacted by Stark, who tried to appeal to her by telling her that she did not have to be who Thanos made her, but could choose. However, Gamora was still determined to kill Stark, so she attempted to fire at him, but was prevented by Valkyrie. Stark tried again, informing Gamora of his past with his father, and once more asked who she wanted to be. Gamora was impacted by Stark's words, so she decided to help him win the race against Grandmaster.[1]
Killing Thanos[]
- "Gamora, survivor of Sakaar and destroyer of Thanos."
- âThe Watcher to Gamora[src]
As Tony Stark prepared to leave Sakaar, Gamora stopped him, stating that she could not return to Thanos without him. No longer loyal to her father, Gamora returned to Sanctuary, pretending to have caught Stark. Gamora leapt at Thanos and used the Melt Stick to slowly kill him.[1] Gamora claimed Thanos' Double-Edged Sword for herself, as well as obtaining the Infinity Crusher, which she used to destroy the Infinity Stones.[2]
Chosen by the Watcher[]
Recruited[]
- "You, Gamora, have been chosen."
- âThe Watcher to Gamora[src]
Having destroyed the Stones, she and Stark travelled to Nidavellir in order to destroy the Infinity Gauntlet. There they met Eitri and were in the process of melting the Gauntlet, when the Watcher appeared before them and told Gamora she was chosen by him.
She was then transported to a bar in a dimension outside of time and space conjured up another universe's Strange Supreme. There she met people from other universes such as Peggy Carter, T'Challa, Erik Stevens, and Thor. They were then approached by the Watcher who explained the threat they faced to them and dubbed them as the Guardians of the Multiverse. Gamora then showed them the Infinity Crusher and made a plan of how they would go about in their mission
Saving the Multiverse[]
Gamora and the other Guardians of the Multiverse were then transported through a portal to an uninhabited planet on another universe. Gamora then asked Thor if he trusted Erik Killmonger, to which he replied he trusted all of them. However, Gamora had her suspicions about Killmonger. Strange Supreme then materialized drinks for them and proposed a toast, but as he rambled, T'Challa finished the toast.
Thor then inadvertently alerted Ultron to their presence and Strange quickly gave the team protection spells to defend themselves. Upon T'Challa's theft of the Soul Stone from Ultron, Strange created another portal and Gamora, T'Challa, and Killmonger, who all hopped through into Ultron's home universe. They were soon joined by the others and as Carter was about to hand Gamora the Stone, Natasha Romanoff arrived and snatched it from them.
Realizing they were all on the same team, Ultron arrived and began a brawl to take the Stone back from them. Angry that they were still alive, Ultron attempted to destroy the universe, but Strange managed to stop him. Later on in the fight, Gamora got the upper hand and ran at Ultron with her double-edged sword, managing to daze the AI with her blow. However, Ultron used the Time Stone to freeze her in time and take the Soul Stone from her.
Strange then used his Time Stone to reverse Ultron's actions, allowing Gamora to take possession of the Stone. As Carter, T'Challa, and Strange incapacitated Ultron, she used the Infinity Crusher to destroy the Stones on Ultron's armor. However, after an explosive flash, Ultron reappeared and told them that the Infinity Crusher didn't work on his universe's Stones, which Gamora realized too late. She and the other Guardians then prepared to fight him.
When Ultron deduced that Strange was the one he needed to kill, he used the Stones' power to try and remove the protection spells off of them, resulting in Gamora, T'Challa, and Thor to struggle to keep it on them. As this happened, Romanoff, with assistance from Carter, was able to insert Arnim Zola's AI into Ultron. With the android subdued, Killmonger assumed the Stones for himself.
Gamora and her teammates once again prepared for battle. Failing to convince his former teammates to use the Stones' power to fix their respective universes, Killmonger knocked them all away. However, he was soon interrupted by Zola, who had taken over Ultron's body. The two of them wrestled for control of the Stones, giving Strange and the Watcher time to place them into a pocket dimension.[2]
Returning Home[]
With the battle over, the Guardians of the Multiverse returned to the bar, where The Watcher thanked them for their efforts and informed them that because of them, the Multiverse had been saved. He then explained that each of the heroes would return to the exact moment that they left their universes. Following Thor and T'Challa into a glowing doorway, Gamora entered the doorway and found herself back in her home universe, where she reunited with Iron Man.[2]

Behind the Scenes[]
- Gamora was developed in what was initially an episode centered entirely around Tony Stark and Pepper Potts due to interest in exploring what led Gamora to betray Thanos.[3]
- Gamora was chosen to join the Guardians of the Multiverse over Stark due to several factors, which A.C. Bradley cites as being the design of her outfit and her emotional connection to the Infinity Stones. Matthew Chauncey added that it was intended as a subversion of expectations had What If... Iron Man Crashed Into the Grandmaster? aired before What If... The Watcher Broke His Oath?, as was initially intended, since people would believe Stark to be the one chosen.[3]
