Synopsis for "Nothing Can Save Fort Henry"
The story begins with a trooper from the Fort telling Matt Hawk that the Colonel needed to see him quickly. He switches into the garb of the Two Gun Kid jumping out the window at the back of his office onto his trusty steed Thunder. He arrives an hour ahead of the trooper, and finds out he is asked to defend a man who's a doctor and was selling medicine to the stores in town on the side. In short order, Matt Hawk gets his sentence reduced so he's not imprisoned but was stripped of his military rank and honors and given a dishonorable discharge. A few days later Matt, as the Two-Gun Kid, Is attacked by Apaches, and apparently are unskilled in the use of their newly acquired firearms; so he is able to disarm them without killing them. It turns out that the dishonorably discharged Dr Dixon is the one selling the arms to the Indians. He was mad at them taking away his military honors and wanted to destroy the fort. Eventually he makes a potion that increases the size of the chief of the Indians, Roaring Bear, and the horse he rides on was the first to be given the potion and increased it’s size. The Indians, about 300 in all storm the fort, and Boom Boom and the Two-Gun Kid gain access to help defend the fort as well. The giant Indian chief with a battering ram breaks down the doors of the fort and is confronted by Boom Boom and is quite handedly knocked out in hand to hand combat by Roaring Bear. The Two-Gun kid then challenges him. And is getting the better of him, but the large Indian chief grabs a rifle and almost has it pointed at the kid's heart. But Two-Gun draws his gun and disarms Chief Roaring Bear quickly. Ultimately, the Two-Gun kid beats him in hand to hand combat by moving quickly like a rattlesnake. With their chief beaten, the Indians happen to have a roll of dynamite and we're going to blow up the entire fort with it, but in the end court-marshaled Dixon jumps on the TNT and saves the fort and the flag. They buried him with honors. The Colonel remarks “The human spirit is hard to understand.” And Matt retorts “I reckon there's something about serving the flag that gets to a man! Once you have loved O Glory, you can't ever put her out of your heart -- she becomes a part of you!”
