The termite mounds is a location in the Outlands. It is the home of the Outsiders, a pride of lions who are in exile from the Pride Lands.
Composition[]
Plains[]
The termite mounds are surrounded by a stretch of barren land. There is a smattering of dead trees and several large termite mounds. The ground is scattered with bones, which are presumably leftovers from the Outsiders' hunting expeditions.
Main termite mound[]
The largest termite mound in the area serves as the home of the Outsiders. It is a large network of tunnels where termites reside. However, there is enough room for the Outsiders to live and sleep in, including a cradle made out of rocks, which Zira uses to put Kovu to sleep. It is where the lions typically congregate, especially for announcements or meetings.
Role[]
The Lion King II: Simba's Pride[]
After rescuing her son Kovu from the Pride Lands, Zira brings him back to the termite mounds, where he reunites with his siblings, Nuka and Vitani. It is here that Zira conceives a plan to use Kovu to someday infiltrate Simba's pride and murder Simba. She takes Kovu into the main termite mound, where she sings him a lullaby and tells her pride about her new plan.
Eventually, the Outsiders reconcile with the Pride Landers and move out of the termite mounds.
The Lion Guard[]
"Lions of the Outlands"[]
When Kion uses the Roar of the Elders to defeat the Outsiders, he blows them into the termite mounds. Nuka questions their surroundings, and Zira proclaims that it is their new home.

Trivia[]
- There is an inconsistency with the timeline of when the Outsiders move into the termite mounds. In The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, the Outsiders are already living in the termite mounds by the time that Kovu meets Kiara. However, in The Lion Guard, they are shown to first move in to the termite mounds after Kovu's first encounter with Kiara.[1][2]
