Horizon Zero Dawn[1] is an ongoing comic book series first published in July of 2020. The series is canon to Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, and details events not seen in the games.

Summary[]

Volume 1: The Sunhawk[]

Talanah, Sunhawk of the Hunters Lodge, struggles to find purpose after Aloy, her trusted friend, disappears. When a mysterious new threat emerges in the wilds, she returns to her roots as a hunter to defeat it, only to learn that a whole new breed of mechanized killers stalks the land.[2]

Volume 2: Liberation[]

Taking place during the events of the original game, this new arc explores the never-before-told adventures of Aloy and her fan-favorite sidekick Erend as they hunt for a killer with links to his past. As their journey progresses, and the pair fend off a series of deadly machines, Erend reveals the sweeping tale of the liberation of Meridian, and how his sister, Ersa, Captain of the Carja Vanguard, was murdered.[3]

Publication[]

The series was initially planned to begin with a special issue #0, to be given out on Free Comic Book Day 2020.[2] Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was postponed, and eventually rescheduled as part of the second week of the Free Comic Book Summer event, on July 22, 2020.[4]

The series' initial run was published from July 22 through November 3, concluding with the message that Talanah's story would continue in Horizon Forbidden West. Simultaneously, it was revealed that the comic series would be continuing, with further issues planned for release in 2021.[5] It was later announced that the series' second volume would focus on Erend, and would begin on July 14, 2021.[3]
