Portkey Games is a British video game label. It was originally announced in 2017 to cover a new series of mobile and console video games based on J. K. Rowling's wizarding world.[1] Portkey Games has no employees,[2] and designs and creations of the games are entrusted to WB Games and the developers involved.[3]

On 8 November 2017, Warner Bros. announced the creation of Portkey Games as a new label for mobile and console games based on J.K. Rowling's wizarding world. At the same time, the development of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was announced.[4]
At this point, development projects for Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery (2016,[2] internally coded as "Project Four")[5] and Harry Potter: Magic Awakened (before October)[6] had already started as closed projects.
On 25 April 2018, Hogwarts Mystery was officially released as Portkey Games's first game.[7] The game grossed $32.6 million in its first month[8] and also won Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Mobile Game at the Dragon Awards that year.[9]
In 2018, development footage of an open-world RPG with the development code name "Magic Awakened" was leaked. It was later revealed as Hogwarts Legacy.
On 20 June 2019, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was officially released. The game made $12.3 million in revenue in its first month.[8]
On 30 October, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened was officially announced in China.[10]
On 22 September 2020, Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells was released.[11]
On 9 September 2021, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened was officially released in Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. The game earned $180.7 million in revenue in its first month from the App Store and Google Play alone, achieving the best launch of any Harry Potter mobile game.[8]
In November, Niantic announced that Wizards Unite would shut down in January of the following year.
In 2022, global closed beta tests for Magic Awakened were held three times, in February, July, and December.
On 10 February, Hogwarts Legacy was officially released.[12]
In June 2023, global servers for Magic Awakened began operating in all parts of the world except Belgium and Luxembourg.[13] Servers for North America, Europe, and Oceania were shut down in October 2024.
