Mr. Van Hardenburg was loved by some and hated by many who accused him of being envolved in all manner of nefarious activities. Having been accused at various points of arms dealing, drug trafficking, slave trading, incest, and supporting repressive regimes, some will not mourn his passing, but many in government enjoyed vacations at his ranch and hunting endangered species on his farm.

The South African Arms Dealers is an illegal arms trade organization appearing in The Ballad of Gay Tony.

History[]

Background[]

They are a criminal organization led by Frickie Van Hardenburg, operating in various illegal businesses, including weapons smuggling, the slave trade and drug trafficking.

Frickie and his organization were first mentioned in a promotional trailer for The Ballad of Gay Tony introducing its new exclusive weapons, featuring a Weazel News special report about arms smuggling rings operating in Liberty City and how easy is to obtain such weapons. According to the news report, arms dealer Frickie Van Hardenburg is believed to be linked to this sudden influx of weaponry in the city.

Events of The Ballad of Gay Tony[]

During the mission Sexy Time, Luis Fernando Lopez is tasked by Yusuf Amir to infiltrate Frickie's Yacht and steal his Buzzard attack chopper. Luis makes his way to the yacht using Yusuf's speedboat and then steals the helicopter. While Luis is returning to Yusuf's heliport, Yusuf calls him and requests that he goes back and destroys the yacht using the Buzzard, killing Frickie Van Hardenburg in the process. After sinking Frickie's yacht, some of the arms dealers flee in speedboats, so the final task is to eliminate them.

After Frickie's death in the yacht explosion is reported on the news, Tony Prince calls Luis asking if he was involved with this incident. According to Tony, they were arms smugglers hitched to some of the worst governments in West Africa.
