Overview[]

Infoboxes are templates placed at the top right of articles offering a snapshot of crucial information. They typically contain a title, images, statistics and other key information. The purposes of an infobox are:

  • Presenting a subject's master image
  • Allowing readers to find key details at a glance
  • Enhance the visual organization of an article, making it more user-friendly

Formatting[]

The key principles for infobox usage is:

  1. Place infoboxes at the very top of an article (but underneath tophats)
  2. Use abbreviated game titles and concise date and number formatting (see MOS:NUMBERS)
  3. Keep infobox wikitext tidy and consistent (implement consistent field spacing)
  4. Do not use more than one infobox on an article (see technical limitations)
  5. Do not overcrowd the infobox with too many images
  6. Do not over-clutter the infobox with bulk text.

Technical limitations[]

There are numerous technical limitations related to infoboxes:

  • Infoboxes will always be positioned at the top of a page on Fandom's Mobile theme, regardless of where it is placed in wikitext (where it appears in Desktop theme). For this reason, using multiple infoboxes is not advised.
  • The first image in an infobox will, by default, be positioned above the infobox in Fandom Mobile's theme (as a "hero" image). For this reason, we have implemented dummy images across all infobox templates to prevent the first "actual" image from being removed from the infobox.
