This answer contains spoilers… (view spoiler)[Oh, the Panthers . . . my heart is absolutely broken for them and for what people are saying about them today. But my boys will come back next season stronger and better than ever and out for blood, and I know they'll be a sight to behold! Until then . . . baseball is only a few months away lol

[EDIT] okay seriously, the spoiler warnings in these answers are allllll wonky, this whole answer was supposed to be spoilered! So I'm just going to write SPOILERS instead of messing with the html.

I've got a few projects in the works at the moment, and because I'm excited about them and I want you to be excited about them too, I'll share some details about a handful of my current WIPs (which is why this answer was marked as a spoiler because I don't trust the HTML spoiler tags) <-- haha, GR.......

Beeswax: Beeswax is set in the North Carolina mountains. It follows a single dad who's just broken up with his long-time boyfriend (and best friend) who is hired by a wealthy guy from the city to help him follow the quirky guidelines of his grandfather’s Will in renovating the family’s dilapidated mansion. The catch, of course, is that the Will has to have someone to make sure they're following the strange rules, so the small-town Sheriff is brought into the mix, and the Sheriff just happens to be the ex-boyfriend. Complicating things further is the city boy finding both men exceedingly interesting and attractive. Its not going to be a love-triangle, though, because this one is going to turn into an OT3, and I'm excited about it!

Bringers of Gifts: a Christmas story where two feuding neighbors get trapped together in their building during the blizzard of the century.

The Bleeding Heart: A comically suave thief dares the detective he has a crush on to stop him from stealing a mystery item some time in the next year, but the item turns out to be the detective’s heart, which he figures out a little too late to stop it from being stolen!

Wahoo (working title but I cannot for the life of me remember why): An overly stressed guy from a large city that has yet to be determined has a breakdown and moves to a small town in the South for a fresh start. The entire town decides that this new guy needs to be set up with the town mechanic, who is also the local favorite gay son, and it becomes a comedy of errors trying to get them together.

Mad Dog and Ransom: A melancholy, sort of haunting western that follows a bounty hunter and his escaped prisoner, who he happens to have angrily fallen in love with. They find themselves on the run, not only from the law, but also from other bounty hunters and the outlaw's own gang of men.

Tried & True: Sidewinder 4! Owen and Kelly wake up to a crime scene and realize Owen's been framed for murder. Owen goes on the run to try to figure out who's behind it as the other Sidewinders wreak havoc on local law enforcement to run interference.

I think I remember reading on your AskAbi page that originally Madeline had a much darker plan for Zane. Now that Ty & Zane's story is over (except for the vignettes which I live for), could you share what that plan was?

But here's a TL;DR version: When I took on the series solo, I didn't inherit a lot to go on re: Zane and his arc and his background. I had to use scenes of books we'd already written, and the very few things my former co-writer had shared with me in messages about her creation of the character.

One of the very last scenes written of Zane before the split was the one I shared in that blog post, where Zane receives a call telling him that Ty is dead, and his very first instinct is to put his gun to his head with his finger on the trigger because life just wasn't worth it if he didn't have Ty with him. This is a scene where the BAD GUY is telling him Ty is dead, and yet his first instinct is not to rage or go out to find them, it's to put his gun to his head.

That is not a Zane any of us want to know.

That Zane is still the Zane from the first 7 books, the one who views Ty as a crutch, a drug, as just another addiction to feed. In the last act of the last book, that's just unacceptable. There's no character development there, there's no growth, there's no HOPE. Intending for Zane to float through 9 entire books, depressed and dark and hopeless, with only one thing to live for? The thought just broke my heart.

That's when I scrapped everything I had on Zane, and began to make a plan that would have him rise from the ashes of the first 4 books as a phoenix, instead of wallowing in them.(less)

Hey Abi, just finished Touch & Gaux and Shock & Awe (both brilliant—I'm so glad Ty and Zane realised they were becoming slightly co-dependant and had to sort their issues out separately).
I was wondering if we'll ever get short stories of like Zane pretending to be the rich boyfriend at his co-workers wedding or the offices reaction to the public good-bye kiss?

Just finished "Touch & Geaux" and it was nothing short of AMAZING! Its probably become my favorite of the series. Ty and Zane are written with so much depth, so many layers. They have become my favorite duo. I can't think of any other couple that comes close to them. Thanks so much for creating them! The two twists thrown in around the middle of the book had my jaw dropping and THE ENDING!! If its true the next book won't be out til 2014 it is going to be one seriously long year...filled with at least one series re-read :) Thanks again for Ty and Zane! They, and you, are THE BEST!

Thank you for accepting my friendship request. I hope your new year is going well. I look above here and see your favorite authors listed. I adore Elizabeth Peters and Louis L'Amour. I love the madcap mayhem of Amelia Peabody and her family and I love L'Amour's power to put one right inside his heroes to feel and do what they do.
