Currently, the creature has no official name or designation. However, its production name is "Trapdoor Crab" in the artists' design sheets.[1]

Appearance[]
The crabs are observed to possess a carapace which showcases a light blue hue when not entirely covered by sand. The antennae and eyes of these crabs exhibit a strikingly vibrant red color, while their mouth unfolds to reveal numerous sizable mandibles armed with menacing fangs. The salient characteristic of this species lies in their immense shovel-like pincers.

Personality[]
The Trapdoor Crabs are predatory creatures that inhabit the beaches of Skull Island. As ambush predators, the crabs lay still beneath mounds of sand until sensing the presence of nearby creatures, after which they will burst from the sand and attempt to kill and consume their prey. They appear to feed mostly on creatures smaller than themselves, like other crustaceans and even humans.
After Charlie and Mike wake up on the shores of Skull Island after their ship was sunk by a mysterious creature, several Giant crabs started appearing from underground to try and capture and devour both of them, but ultimately failing, only managing to wound Mike's leg. The two soon managed to get on top of a rock, staying safe from the crabs until Annie appears from the forest, helping them escape away safely from them.
Later on, Dog and Annie ran through several of those Crabs carrying a collar that belonged to a deceased friend of Kong so the Titan can be attracted to the sea, the two easily dodged the crab's claws until arriving to the sea.

The Trapdoor Crabs possess immense shovel-like pincers that allow them to burrow through sand, and also capture and dispatch prey.
Fangs[]
Unlike conventional crabs, the mouth of Trapdoor Crabs contain numerous large fangs and mandibles which are used to consume prey whole.
