Built in 1836 and restored to 1910, this is a charming building with a couple of good tour guides to bring the old place to life.

These are all in Wisconsin.

This is one group of buildings in a homestead. It looks like people might've lived here - curtains in the windows.

This is a typical scene from Southwestern Wisconsin's rolling hills. It has been raining a lot this spring so everything is really green.

Wisconsin & Southern train L863 rumbles along Lake Wisconsin near Okee on January 18, 2019. The rear portion of this unusually long 122-car train can be seen crossing the Wisconsin River bridge in the distance - directly above the blue center-beam lumber car.

Located at the harbor entrance near Superior in Douglas County, Wisconsin, this lighthouse with attached fog horn building was first lit in 1913 and was automated in 1970. Known as the South Breakwater Light by the U.S. Coast Guard, it sits within a 10-mile-long sand bar (reputedly the longest freshwater sand bar in the world) in Lake Superior that stretches between the ports of Superior and Duluth, Minnesota.

Southeast Wisconsin hasn't turned red yet, but the colors are still amazing.

I couldn't find my boots so I toughed out the cold Wisconsin water. Within three minutes my feet felt as if pins were hitting them as debris floated by touching my feet. However, I saw what I wanted and kept in the water for about twenty minutes until the lighting was what I wanted and the water was nice and glassy.

Having picnic tables at on the fair grounds makes enjoying the food so much better.

After fighting my way though all the slow traffic west of Stillwater on Hwy 36 connected to the construction of a new highway bridge over the St. Croix, I figured no way I could beat the train. I hit stoplights, construction zones, and downtown Stillwater. I pulled up to the west end of the bridge, hopped out and listened – no radio remember? Then I decided in case I did beat him, I’d better be ready. So I hiked down to “the spot” the hole in the trees that fans keep open for just this purpose. I hiked through a bit of snow – did I mention I was wearing shorts and tennis shoes? I found the spot, and waited about five minutes – and heard a horn! Wow, I lucked out. A few minutes later the train rumbled across the bridge. All right!

Hmm…that depot in still standing in New Richmond That’s not far, I’ll just head over there and shoot the train there, then head home. Here we go…

Wisconsin Fall road trip. October 2012.

This is certainly proof that we are not still in Florida. I have to admit that it’s not as pleasing to the eye and ear as the breaking surf and the cry of sea birds.

On Sunday Nov. 15 Iowa Pacific ran a deadhead special moving Polar Express equipment from Chicago to Middleton, Wis. Here it is heading out of Milton Junction. We got it one more time in Edgerton then called it a day, meeting up later with DK and MRL for dinner. A great day for all!

I've passed by these on I45 in Wisconsin many times, and decided to stop on the way up to Freedom to see the snowy owls.... I liked the morning light behind it.

(I THINK) This barn was in Wisconsin. Off a highway in a small town, it was obviously well-taken care of and maintained to show it off. I've included some closeups of some parts we find on the barns, like cupola (the thing on the top), weather vane, lightning rod, and an old water well pump.
