The Dragoons (Japanese: 竜騎士団 Dragon Knights) were an order of knights in the service of Macedon, led by its king, Michalis, acting alongside or overseeing the Whitewings, led by Princess Minerva. It is comprised primarily of Dracoknights, but did include other flying and ground-based units.
Overview
In the War of Shadows, when Michalis became king of Macedon and allied with Dolhr, the Dragoons acted alongside the empire. The Dragoons saw limited deployment throughout the war, only acting on four occasions, particularly towards the end of the war. They were first deployed in small number with the Whitewings at Lefcandith Gauntlet to support the Grustian army in stopping Marth from reaching Archanea Palace, though they were defeated in part due to the retreat of the Whitewings. They were next deployed to reinforce Jiol at the Gra Bastion against the Archanean League though only Pegasus Knights were sent; they ultimately failed to repel Marth's army. The Dragoons next took the field led by Orridyon against the League at the Macedon Forest in a bid to repel the advancing army at the border, but were unable to slow their progress. The Dragoons made their last stand at the Macedon Aerie where they were led by King Michalis, in a final attempt to stop Marth and his army, ultimately failing.
In Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, Pegasus Knights that are a part of the Dragoons are called "Pegasus Knights" (Japanese: てんまきしだん) instead of the usual "Dragoon" (Japanese: りゅうきしだん), and many Pegasus Knights previously unaffiliated with Macedon are renamed as well. As such, the Dragoons make a few additional appearances in Mystery of the Emblem. However, as a result of Chapter 21 being cut for Mystery of the Emblem, neither Orridyon nor the Dragoons make an appearance at Macedon Forest, as there is no battle there. These changes were not kept for Shadow Dragon.
Additionally, Dracoknights under the "Dragoon" banner make three appearances in Mystery of the Emblem Book II. The first was outside the capital of Grust, the second in the desert just outside the city of Khadein, and the final known deployment of the Dragoons was at Adria Pass; no other Macedonian forces are deployed in any of these instances. Macedonian Dracoknights do make an appearance under General Lykke during his rebellion, though these knights do not seem to be affiliated with the Dragoons per se. In Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, the names of the Dracoknights were changed to Archanea and Khadein, in essence removing the Dragoons from the War of Heroes.
