The Warlock class is a class that has been introduced in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. It is a magic-using class that is very similar to the Sage or Sorcerer class, using Reason magic to deal heavy damage toward enemies. The class has proficiencies in Reason and Faith Magic.
Overview[]
Fire Emblem: Three Houses[]
The Warlock serves as the analogue to Sages of previous games, being the game's black magic specialist. Any unit can promote into the class provided that they meet (or come close to) the required A rank in Reason, have reached at least level 20, and passed the corresponding Certification Exam.
In combat, the Warlock proves more threatening than Mages owing to their innate Black Tomefaire and higher Magic modifier. Compared to Bishops, they have one more point of Magic and Speed, but lose out on one point of HP and Resistance, making them more offensive-oriented, when coupled with the aforementioned Black Tomefaire which benefits most units.
However, the Warlock has shortcomings atypical of magic users in the series. Firstly, they have poor Movement (the same as that of the base Noble and Commoner classes), meaning it takes time for them to get in the action compared to weapon-wielding units. Warlocks also have poor Defense compared to other Advanced classes and relatively poor HP growths compared to these classes, making them vulnerable to physical attackers. Another issue, albeit unit-specific, is its abilities' lack of support to dark magic users like Lysithea or Hapi, meaning they do not gain extra damage or uses on their magic attacks. As such, the Warlock can be seen as more of a stepping stone to Master classes like Gremory, Dark Knight or Mortal Savant, however it should be noted that none of these classes possess both Black Tomefaire and doubled Black Magic uses, so Warlock can be a situational fall-back if both these abilities are needed.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes[]
The Warlock serves as the promoted form of the Mage, and can be acquired by any unit once that class has been fully mastered. Like the Mage before it, the Warlock is strong against bow-using classes (like the Sniper) but weak against gauntlet-using classes (like the Grappler).
