So you are finally here. In this place between death and rebirth, where life knows no dawn. Come, then. Follow me down into the darkest depths of despair.

The Dead Ends is the sixth Dungeon Dungeon and the final dungeon in Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker.

Story[]

Here, at the edge of the universe, await as many stories as there are stars in its sea. Of rises and falls, of beginnings and ends...of a little bird who left home with hope, yet nested in sorrow. Hearken unto these tales to be told...

Meet the sixth end[]

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful blue star... ...that fell to pestilence, and rotted inside and out. The more its people clung to life, the more they suffered. Until they cursed not the illness, but their fellow corrupted. Those who lived and festered, those who died and decayed... And the very last of them wished they had never been born at all.

Leave the sixth end behind[]

Meet the eighth end[]

In a faraway place, a brilliant star eradicated disease... ...before destroying the selfsame lives it had saved. Its people sought ever greater freedoms no matter the cost... They tried to buy peace with fire and steel... And when one asked, "What is the point?" there were none left to answer.

Meet the seventeenth end[]

Farther still existed a star without strife... ...where none remembered life's trials—or its joys. What its people had gained from ease, they lost to apathy. So they created the kindest, most gentle of beasts. Its steps were light, and its gift was as painless as it was beautiful. Bathed in its golden glow, they all slept happily ever after...

Musical Themes[]

"Of Countless Stars", an arrangement of the main Ultima Thule theme "Close in the Distance", plays at all times in The Dead Ends except during boss battles.

"On Blade's Edge" plays while fighting the Caustic Grebuloff and the Peacekeeper, while "Finality" plays during the battle with Ra-la.

Behind the scenes[]

Two of the three civilizations recreated in this dungeon are mentioned in Meteion's report. Ostrakon Okto was the star Meteion mentioned that had destroyed itself shortly after her arrival, and Ostrakon Deka-hepta is implied to be the last star she describes in her report, which lost the will to live after having discarded all sources of sorrow and finding no more joy in life. Ostrakon Hexi is not named nor hinted at in her reports.

As revealed during the 68th Letter from the Producer Live, the denizens of Deka-Hepta are meant to echo the final fate of the Ancients if they had continued to pursue their idea of a perfect world.
