The Big Payback[]

Journal

• Yayake of the Thaumaturges' Guild has taught you about two of the basic pillars of the Order of Nald'thal—virtue and wealth. Virtue accrued in this life determines one's place in the realm of Thal after death. And to win virtue, one must amass and leave behind as much wealth as possible. Speak to the thaumaturge I'llofii to begin your service to Arrzaneth Ossuary.

• I'llofii has spoken to you of the third pillar of the Order—sin. She presents to you the last will and testament of a patron of the Ossuary, which contains a vengeance order—a service provided by the thaumaturges whereby revenge is exacted upon who or whatever took the life of the deceased. Execute the vengeance order, and kill the death-marked billygoat responsible for the patron's death.

• You have killed the death-marked billygoat and obtained a twisted aldgoat horn as proof of the deed. Return to Arrzaneth Ossuary and report to I'llofii.

Revelry in Rivalry[]

Journal

• Yayake has charged you with the task of traveling to Limsa Lominsa to sell graves and burial plots within the Ossuary to the citizenry there. Speak to the other thaumaturges to learn what you can of peddling graves.

• You have made your first rival in the guild, a Lalafellin novice being sent to Ishgard to sell graves in the same manner as you. She departs after boasting of being the better thaumaturge and assuring you she will sell more graves. Make preparations for your journey and set out to the west for Limsa Lominsa.

• Deciphering the speech of Baderon, you learn that the smiths of Naldiq & Vymelli's have been known to purchase graves from the Ossuary in the past. But you must first do them some kindness before they are like to hear you out. Baderon shares that he has received word of a smith being attacked just beyond the city moments prior to your arrival. Hurry to the smith's aid in lower La Noscea and save her to ingratiate yourself with her guild.

• You were able to track down the smith from Naldiq & Vymelli's and defeat the beast which threatened to take her life. Return to Naldiq & Vymelli's and report what you have done.

• You attempt to deliver word of what has transpired to Bodenolf of Naldiq & Vymelli's, but find him unwilling to listen. Use the power of the Echo to discover the cause behind this.

• Using the power of the Echo to peer into Bodenolf's past, you learn that a dear friend of his was once interred in Ul'dah only to have her grave looted and the valuables sold. He asks you to return to Arrzaneth Ossuary and make this known to the thaumaturges. Make your way back to Ul'dah and speak with Yayake.

• You have spoken to Yayake of what you learned in Limsa Lominsa, but are only scolded for not securing a single sale. She insists that you learn by the example being set by the Lalafell novice who is now back from Ishgard. Seek out your rival and speak to her.

• Your guild rival belittles you with her characteristic condescension, defending her own actions. Speak once more to Yayake.

Law and the Order[]

Journal

• Yayake has directed you to aid I'llofii for your next task. A horrific accident has occurred, claiming a number of lives—patrons of the Ossuary among them. Learn what you can of the incident from the thaumaturges at the Ossuary, and then speak to I'llofii to hear what you must do.

• I'llofii has told you that a chocobo coach bound for Ul'dah from the ferry docks of Vesper Bay met with a terrible fate, leaving many dead. Some among the deceased have vengeance orders, the validity of which must be discerned by discovering if the accident was truly accidental... Travel to the site of the accident and investigate its cause.

• Arriving at the site of the accident, you find your guild rival already on the scene. She claims to be searching for possessions of the deceased to be used in the funerary rites. Use the power of the Echo to see if she is telling all she knows.

• The Echo reveals that the Lalafell novice is complicit in murder, having used her thaumaturgy on the coach driver to bring about the accident. Though the Order's law prevents a vengeance order being carried out against one of their own, the novice attacks you to protect her secret. Defeat your rival.

• Upon besting your rival in open combat, I'llofii appears, proclaiming the true path of the thaumaturge lies in knowing the evils inherent within us all, and realizing who we are both because of and despite them. Having broken the Order's laws, your rival will now know the Order's justice. What grim fate awaits her? Return to the Ossuary and speak once more to I'llofii.
