Additional actions, colloquially known as cross-class skills, were abilities in Final Fantasy XIV. They could be used by multiple disciplines with a limited amount of slots available, forcing players to choose which actions best suited their playstyle.
Starting in Stormblood, additional actions were effectively phased out, with Disciple of War and Magic actions being replaced with role actions and PvP-exclusive actions, many of which being existing abilities taken from various disciplines. Shadowbringers updated the role action layout, while Disciple of the Hand additional actions were removed in patch 5.1 and became core class skills. The patch 6.1 PvP revamp in Endwalker removed additional actions from PvP modes, and patch 6.3 reclassified Disciple of the Land additional actions as role actions.
Disciples of War and Magic[]
Prior to the release of Stormblood, Disciples of War and Magic had access to additional actions outside of PvP, as each class learned a handful of abilities that could then be used by other disciplines. With the release of Stormblood, additional actions for Disciples of War and Magic were replaced by role actions, while the current additional PvP action system was introduced to fill their role in PvP.
Prior to their removal, classes would unlock additional action slots every 5 levels and jobs every 10 levels, reaching a maximum of 10 and 5 slots respectively at level 50. Classes also had access to a greater variety of additional actions than jobs. This would grant classes greater versatility, though this rarely proved enough to justify their use over the more specialized jobs. Additional actions also frequently weren't as powerful when used by their non-native disciplines, as their source disciplines often had traits augmenting the action that did not carry over to other disciplines. On the other hand, certain actions, such as Thaumaturge’s Swiftcast or Archer’s Quelling Strikes, were considered obligatory to include for higher-end content where applicable, even if the player had otherwise no interest in levelling the class the action is gained from.
Disciples of the Hand[]
As with other classes, Disciples of the Hand gained additional action slots every five levels up to level 50 for a maximum of 10. They all granted and had access to a vast array of abilities to improve their crafting, and it was common for players to level all crafting disciplines to gain access to these skills. They also had access to the gatherer surveying skills, though crafters would rarely if ever find themselves in the field to utilize them.
A handful of crafting additional actions were removed in patch 5.0 before Disciples of the Hand lost access to additional actions entirely in patch 5.1 with the overhaul of the crafting system. Many additional actions were rolled into the crafting disciplines as class actions instead, being available by default without the need for slots or leveling other disciplines.
Disciples of the Land[]
While Disciple of the Land additional actions were reclassified as role actions, they are functionally unchanged. The only actions available are surveying abilities learned by other gathering disciplines. Disciples of the Land would previously gain an additional action slot every 5 levels to a maximum of 10 at level 50, despite only 8 actions being available to each discipline.

PvP actions[]
These actions were only available during PvP and were unique to each role, making them similar to role actions. Only two could be set at any given time, so players had to choose abilities which complemented their combat strategy. As with other PvP actions, characters gained access to all additional PvP actions for their role as soon as they reached level 30.
