Additional Information
As a child, Sidurgu lived with his family in a frontier town of Othard, until their settlement fell under the subjugation of the invading Garlean Empire. Unable to endure the stifling regime of their conquerors, his parents bundled him into a cart along with their meager possessions, and fled into the wilderness soon after his sixth nameday. For five years they wandered, seeking a place to belong, before their journeys eventually brought them to Eorzea's shores. Like many of their race, they found themselves drawn to the plains of Coerthas, where they hoped to adopt the nomadic ways of their ancestors... but neither fate nor the Ishgardians were kind to the Au Ra. Molded by a life of tragedy, the displaced Xaela found himself well suited to the mantle of a dark knight. Now bereft of family, master, and fellow apprentice, the twenty-six year old Sidurgu wears his stern demeanor like a suit of armor, impenetrable to all perhaps but his young charge, Rielle.
Lore
While out for supplies, Sidurgu came across the Warrior of Light caught in an ambush by the Temple Knights. After taking the Knights out, he chastises the Warrior for not taking them out immediately. He says he trained alongside Fray and asks to meet with him at the Forgotten Knight.
Sidurgu recounts how he and Fray rescued his young ward, Rielle, and were branded traitors for it. Believing they view her as some sort of threat, he wants to take her to the Vanu Vanu, and asks the Warrior of Light to accompany them. Agreeing, the group make their way to the Sea of Clouds.
Speaking to the Vanu Vanu, they explain that Rielle's aether belies a "great spirit". Sidurgu believes that this may be why the Temple Knights are after her. As they are speaking, they are ambushed once again by the Knights. Slaying them, they escape.
Sidurgu brought Rielle and the Warrior of Light where they met with E-Sumi-Yan the healer. E-Sumi-Yan determines that Rielle possesses a spirit similar to a Dravanian, to which Sidurgu vehemently argues that she would never imbibe dragon blood.
Sidurgu, wishing to find the truth of whether or not Rielle carried dragon blood within her, brings her and the Warrior of Light to the Dravanian Forelands. There, they speak to Vidofnir, who confirms that she indeed carries the blood, and if she has not consumed it herself, then her parents must have. Rielle recalls her abusive childhood, where she was locked away in a small, windowless room. She then reveals that it is her mother who pursues her, wishing to kill her. She explains that her father had been a heretic and consumed dragon blood, but died before he could transform. Rielle's mother believed she was already tainted and wished to kill her before she could become a heretic as well.
Sidurgu is familiar with Rielle's mother, Ystride, and believes that he and the Warrior of Light must learn more about the path of the Dark Knight before facing her. They head to the Churning Mists and speak with the Moogles, who promise to teach them of the Flame of the Abyss they seek. While they give Sidurgu and the Warrior of Light menial chores, they hide Rielle away, and tell the pair that they won't return her. After engaging the Pomguard in combat, they ask why Sidurgu cares about Rielle so much. He claims that it is simply him doing his duty. Rielle hears this and chastises him, saying he didn't care about her, only about the darkness and getting stronger. Sidurgu agrees, and tells Rielle that once her mother has been dealt with, she is free to do as she pleases. The Moogles reveal that the true power of the Dark Knight doesn't just come from the darkness, but from the strength given to one who loves something.
Upon returning to the Forgotten Knight, Sidurgu, Rielle and the Warrior of Light receive a missive stating they will be tried in combat in the Coerthas Western Highlands. After a bloody battle, the Knights and Ystride are defeated, but the mother left alive, with Sidurgu showing mercy. She proclaims that she will hunt Rielle forever. Realizing that she will never know peace, Sidurgu takes the woman's life.
Rielle decides to stay with Sidurgu, as long as he is honest with her, to which he agrees.
In the following months, the Warrior of Light and Sidurgu crossed paths once again. They catch up, and Sidurgu suggests they go out on a patrol, starting in the Last Vigil. However, upon reaching House Fortemps, the Warrior of Light begins to reflect, and Sidurgu observes their soul crystal crack in two. While trying to understand what happened, a young boy appears, apologizing for "accidentally" taking some of their power. They express the desire to do good with it, and ask only to borrow a fraction of it. Though Sidurgu expressed the desire to simply retrieve the Warrior of Light's aether, they nevertheless entertain the lad, and he seeks out someone suffering to help.
They come across a woman who was the cousin of Ser Ignasse of the Heavens' Ward. She lamented the fact that he never got to restore the statue of Saint Valeroyant before he died, and now it may never be repaired. The young boy, who reveals his name is Myste, tells the woman to meet them somewhere private. To everyone's surprise, Ser Ignasse makes an appearance, telling the woman not to mourn him, but to move on. She thanks them for letting her see her cousin one more time, then asks to help him flee the city.
Outside the city, Sidurgu informs the Warrior that the Ser Ignasse they saw was nothing more than a simulacrum, and he faded to aether once they got far enough away. The Warrior reclaimed the aether, but was still not made whole. Myste stated that he had the ability to use these powers, and once he did he would be able to make the Warrior whole again. Sidurgu again advised simply taking the aether back, but left the choice up to the Warrior. Agreeing to allow the boy to use the power a few more times, Sidurgu offered to keep an eye on Myste for the time being.
Some time later, Myste hears of a woman who was released as a prisoner to Tailfeather where she was to work for her penance, but was being mistreated. Sidurgu, witnessing her mistreatment, opted to rescue her, despite her having almost ruined the peace treaty between the dragons and Ishgard, and poisoning the Warrior of Light, saying if they had managed to forgive her, then there was no reason for her abuse. After saving her, Myste created a simulacrum of her husband who had died during the war. Shew managed to reach some closure, despite knowing he was simply a shade. She apologized to the Warrior of Light for everything she did, and returned to her life. Despite trying to do his best, Myste was distraught at the outcome of the events. Seeing this, Sidurgu suggested they head to the Churning Mists, where his master would take him as a boy.
At the Churning Mists, Myste summoned Sidurgu's old master, to give him one last chance to ask him questions about why he walked the path of the Dark Knight, and to have a sparring match. Though he managed to overcome his master and obtain closure, his wounds were rather severe, requiring him to stay in Moghome for a time longer, sending Myste and the Warrior of Light off to their next target by themselves. After a while, he returned to Ishgard with Rielle, waiting for the other two to return.
When the Warrior of Light returned without Myste, he realized they would need to track him down. Learning that his last location was Rhalgr's Reach, they make their way there, only to learn that he had somehow drained the life energy out of several Chocobos and other monsters to strengthen himself. They split up and search Gyr Abania. Sidurgu comes across Myste, demanding that he return the aether he stole, prompting Myste to call upon Ystride to attack them, knocking Rielle out and wounding Sidurgu. The Warrior of Light arrives and defends them, however Myste continues to summon stronger enemies, including Ilberd, Livia sas Junius and Rihtahtyn sas Arvina. Just as they are about to attack, the Warrior of Light summons a simulacrum of Fray to fight alongside him, to whom Sidurgu loans his sword.
Following a fierce battle, Myste finally returns the aether to the Warrior of Light, and returns to them, making them whole once again. Back at the Forgotten Knight, Sidurgu reflects on everything that happened, and expresses his gratitude to the Warrior, saying he will be there for them whenever he is needed.
