[edit]From Dutch citaat, from Latin citātum, the neutral inflection of the past participle of citō, citāre (“to cause to move, arouse, summon, urge, call”), the frequentative form of cieō, ciēre (“to move, set in motion, stir, rouse, call, invite”), from the Proto-Indo-European base *ḱey- (“to move to and fro”).
