[edit]From Old High German giunnan, from unnan, from Proto-West Germanic *unnan. Compare German gönnen, Dutch gunnen, Yiddish פֿאַרגינען (farginen).

- (ditransitive) to be happy for someone because of their good fortune, to grant someone something; (in the negative) to begrudge

- I gunn eich eier Glick. ― I don't begrudge you your luck.
- Dena gunn i nix! ― I don't grant them anything!
- (ditransitive, ironic) (used when the speaker wants to express that something would serve someone right)
