  • 1 People's Park (人民公园; Rénmín Gōngyuán) (South of the main train station, bordering Dongsitiao Road (东四条路/Dōngsìtiáolù) in the west, Huanhu Road (环湖路/ Huánhúlù) in the east, and Dongping'an Street (东平安街/Dōngpíng'ānjiē) in the south). The 49 hectares large park is a good place to people watch and get a glimpse at urban Chinese culture. Near the northern entrance, there are several squares where you can watch elderly people dance and enjoy amateur performances of traditional Chinese signing. There you'll also find another monument dedicated to the resistance against the Japanese invaders during the Second World War. Yixin Lake (怡心湖/ Yíxīnhú) occupies the eastern part of the park and during the summer months it is an excellent place to see wetland bird species and water lilies in bloom. Next to the northern corner of Yixin Lake is a small zoo, including deer, zebra, macaques, and an assortment of birders. The zoo is free, but the exhibits can be a bit depressing. The smaller Lianxin Lake (连心胡/ Liánxīnhú) is near the west entrance. Its southern half has been retained as a cattail-filled wetland, while the northern part has paddle boats for rent. The southern half of the park has an amusement park with dozens of rides, including a Ferris wheel, haunted house, and various child-friendly rides. Park entrance and zoo are free. Tickets for the amusement park range from ¥10 to ¥30 per ride/attraction.
