This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Albums and songs. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion

Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:

Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Albums and songs|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.

Removing a closed AfD discussion

Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.

Other types of discussions

You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Albums and songs. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

Redirect to Sally Steele. The album is only visible in typical retail and streaming directories, and I can find no reliable reviews or commentary upon its release in 2023. Comment. In theory this could be a successful list. There are plenty of sources in google books to compile such a list, and properly source it. In other words, it is rescuable if someone feels like rescuing this list. - I very much doubt that any of them have reasonable coverage of ballroom dance albums. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate catalog. Unless it is a glossary, we don't list redlinks. What really have a chance is List of salsa albums. For it, there is even Latin Grammy Award for Best Salsa Album. And there are plenty of album articles such as Salsa Big Band. As the person who revert the initial deletion/redirect, I should probably comment as well (especially since the lack of discussion was the reason for my revert). I'm not familiar with how these discussions usually go, but going off the list provided in WP:NALBUM, I'd say it passes on at least the second of the criteria, since the album has appeared on the Korean "Circle Album Chart" recording a highest position of #7. The article also has several references which would allow it to pass the first criteria, but there's also references in there which I would not consider reliable or independent (KTown4u for example is an online store, not a reliable news outlet). Whether this is enough too keep the article, I leave for other editors to decide.DragonFury (talk) 16:53, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cigarettes and Valentines

To start things off, I want to make it clear this nomination is not about notability. I have zero doubts that Cigarettes and Valentines might meet the general notability guidelines, which would be hard to establish since most of the sourcing is interviews anyways, but I digress. Rather, my concern is the significant overlap between this and American Idiot. Because at the end of the day, that is what Cigarettes and Valentines boils down to, a failed project that came before American Idiot, and all sources available reflect this (including the ones I searched for prior to this). The project is only discussed within the context of American Idiot's production. There's not really anything worth discussing about Cigarettes and Valentines that isn't (or at least, can be) discussed in the covered in the American Idiot article. There's also a problem related to how we do not know, nor may we ever know, what Cigarettes and Valentine's was going to be, or what it had. Based on that, I think that even if all statements in this article were cited to reliable sources (which, at present, they are not), it runs the risk of coming off as spreading rumors, or in others terms original research or sourcing synth. Because of these reasons, I believe that Cigarettes and Valentines fails NOPAGE, and should be redirected to the American Idiot article.

As for the song, I highly doubt that it is independently notable from Awesome as Fuck based on the present sourcing, as it only discusses this one specific performance of the song, and nothing beyond that. And combining this album and this song into one article to try and make something worthwhile comes off as a coatrack. λ NegativeMP1 21:39, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Weak Keep - I am usually not a fan of articles on albums that were never released, which tend to be full of obsessive fan trivia. However, this album is different because it was nearly complete and had even been announced as coming soon before the master tapes were stolen. Also, Cigarettes and Valentines is not simply an early version of American Idiot because only one full song and a few titles made the transition. So this unreleased album has its own history and identity as a stand-alone item. I'm at "Weak Keep" because everything could possibly be described as a historical episode in the band's article, but there is probably enough coverage to support an album article too. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 13:13, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment - The current article is little more than a dictionary definition and it is not very encyclopedic. As a type of song, this article could be expanded into something similar to ballad or aria, but knowledgeable editors will have to do a lot of work. "Unencyclopedic" and "needs expansion" are not good criteria for a vote so I am merely commenting here, but I recommend that someone gather the forces at Project Cleanup, Article Rescue Squadron, and/or Project Turkey. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:56, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment - This article has already survived two attempted AfDs easily, and neither of those had a single vote to delete. The nominator this time was also the nominator of the second AfD, and this latest nomination has no acknowledgement of any of the successful arguments made by "Keep" voters previously. The second AfD did have some discussion of how the article is tough to maintain due to the singer's enormously prolific career, and perhaps splitting into multiple articles (perhaps by decade) could be considered. keep the article clearly passes NLIST. This is neither WP:FANCRUFT, nor some indiscriminate collection of information, as the information in list is factual list of songs that were recorded. Asha Bhosale has been included in the Guinness book of world records for that source. As someone mentioned in the previous AFD not having this list will be stupid. If you folks personally can't handle it, then post about it on relevant wikiprojects, and stop working on the article. When the article "list of missing persons" got big, it was not deleted, it was split in decades — something which had been suggested to you already. Keep (but improve). I already commented above but will formally vote here, because no viable argument has ever been made to delete this article. Two previous AfDs passed with flying colors with all votes to keep in compliance with policy, which the current nominator ignored. The one delete vote here, on how to "handle" the article, is invalid per several sub-policies at WP:SURMOUNTABLE.
