- The result of the discussion was: rename. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 19:53, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:White horses in England to Category:Horses in art
- Nominator's rationale: The articles inside aren't about actual horses, but hill figures which fits more into Horses in art. Also, categorizing by color is WP:TRIVIALCAT. Brandmeistertalk 12:07, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
- Comment: Surely this should be a dual upmerge proposal also to Category:Hill figures in England? --Paul_012 (talk) 14:43, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
- Yep, I'd support that. Brandmeistertalk 16:00, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
- Dual upmerge -- White horses are hill figures. There are no red grey or brown ones, so that "white" is not trivial, but because this form of art is only performed where what is underneath the topsoil is chalk. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:58, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
- Keep but rename e.g. to Category:White horses (hill figures) in England to clarify the purpose of the category. It is a valid subcategory of Category:Horses in art, I do not see a good reason to merge. Marcocapelle (talk) 11:00, 9 April 2022 (UTC)
- Either dual upmerge per my above comment, or rename per Marcocapelle. I don't prefer either option, but the current name needs to be changed. --Paul_012 (talk) 15:24, 10 April 2022 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:Politics of the British Isles , and redirect to Category:Politics of the United Kingdom. – Fayenatic London 19:55, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:British politics to Category:Politics of the British Isles
- Nominator's rationale:
For me 'British politics' is just an alternative name for 'Politics of the United Kingdom', British politics is redirecting to Politics of the United Kingdom too. Thus I propose to merge content of Category:British politics to Category:Politics of the British Isles and place {{Category redirect}}. Balkovec (talk) 17:50, 11 April 2022 (UTC)WP:SOCKSTRIKE – Extraordinary Writ (talk) 23:34, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
- Support in principle. Category:British politics is a relatively recent (2021) creation in the wrong format (the convention in Category:Politics by country is 'Politics of Foo') which adds nothing to Category:Politics of the British Isles and its subcat Category:Politics of the United Kingdom. Its contents should be re-distributed between these 2 categories. Oculi (talk) 00:13, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
- Alt 1 Delete both. Politics of the United Kingdom is fine - it deals with a state that existed from 1801 to the present day. I see no purpose in Category:Politics of the British Isles - what would it cover that is not in the former? Is it to cover territory outside the territory of the UK? That would be the Republic of Ireland which has its own category, thank you very much. Or is it to cover a time period when the islands of the British isles were under different states? For that we have Category:Parliament of Great Britain. In short, both are redundant. Laurel Lodged (talk) 13:35, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
- It is probably better to start a separate discussion about Category:Politics of the British Isles because it also involves a discussion about the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, and Category:Political movements in the British Isles should then be nominated too. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:52, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

- Merge either way, the proposed merge and the alt merge per Peterkingiron largely have the same effect because Category:Politics of the United Kingdom is already a subcategory of Category:Politics of the British Isles. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:13, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
- Merge to Category:Politics of the British Isles' which can cover all sorts of polities in the British Isles without other categorization, like Category:Politics of Wessex or Category:Politics of the Picts etc-- 65.92.247.17 (talk) 22:28, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: rename, after the early middle ages historians no longer use the term "Germanic peoples". The only thing these people have in common is a language group. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:35, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose that's exactly what Germanic people means: people speaking Germanic languages Marcelus (talk) 08:52, 8 April 2022 (UTC)

- Oppose per WP:CATNAME#General conventions and WP:TITLE. The current namings are more WP:CONCISE, and WP:CONSISTENT with the namings of upstream and downstream categories. Category:11th-century Germanic people and Category:12th-century Germanic people include quite a few Lombards, and it is far from certain that Lombards in those centuries still spoke a Germanic language. The proposed moves thus fail WP:PRECISION. Categories for the later centuries have been emptied (by me) can be deleted per WP:C1. Krakkos (talk) 16:51, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

- Propose renaming Category:Yuri (genre) comics to Category:Yuri (genre) manga
- Nominator's rationale: I don't feel very strongly about renaming, it's more of 'we have several related categories, this can be renamed, merged or deleted and I am not sure what to do, help :D'. If this is about manga, then we already have Category:Yuri (genre) anime and manga, and it could be perhaps renamed to Category:Yuri (genre) manga. Alternatively, since we have Category:Works about lesbians, this could be renamed to an even more clear Category:Comics about lesbians. Or maybe it should just be merged to Category:Lesbian-related comics? It's a bit of a mess. Given the overall perception of Yuri (genre) as Japanese/manga themed lesbian works, I can see Category:Yuri (genre) manga being a subcategory of Category:Lesbian-related comics (which I think would be better of being renamed to "comics about lesbians"...); the problem is the fact that we tend to have a ton of comic-and-animation Japanese groupings through Category:Anime and manga (instead of having properly separated and publicated Category:Anime and Category:Manga trees (which of course exist anyway). Ugh. That seems like a can of worms. Thoughts? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 12:53, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

- Merge to Category:Yuri (genre) anime and manga. However, I would potentially support splitting that category into an anime and manga category. A discussion should be done prior to the split. We even fail to distinguish that some of them are light novels which received one or more adaptations. Dimadick (talk) 13:24, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: Delete. However, as there are categories for the preceding four centuries within Category:Albanian Roman Catholic bishops, I'll replace this with Category:18th-century Albanian Roman Catholic bishops rather than (a) leave a gap or (b) create that one from scratch. – Fayenatic London 09:56, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: No such state as Albania existed in the 18th century. The territory was part of the Ottoman Empire. All members are already diffused to Category:Albanian bishops and to Category:18th-century Roman Catholic bishops in the Ottoman Empire so there is no loss of info. Laurel Lodged (talk) 14:20, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
- this argument applies not just to this category but to Category:18th-century Albanian people - and its predecessors. Roman Catholic bishops in Albania are clearly Albanian Roman Catholic priests, and should be attached to those categories. As far as the Roman Catholic church is concerned location is more significant than individual nationality. This category should be (and now is) a subcategory of Category:18th-century Roman Catholic bishops in the Ottoman Empire. There are historical categories for most of the constituent parts of the Ottoman Empire (and the Holy Roman Empire) and they should be retained. Rathfelder (talk) 14:31, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
- Making it more complicated, Albania was not a constituent part of the Ottoman Empire, it was just a small part of Rumelia Eyalet together with current northern Greece, North Macedonia and Bulgaria. At best there were Albanian-speaking people in the 18th century, but verifiability of language is a likely problem. This situation is very similar to the Holy Roman Empire indeed (of which Germany was not a constituent part). Marcocapelle (talk) 17:57, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
- The Albanians as an ethnic group enter the historical record in the 11th century. What languages they spoke is another matter, because there were Albanian minorities throughout the Balkans and the Italian Peninsula. The Arvanites are basically Hellenized Albanians, and the Arbëreshë people are Italianized Albanians. Dimadick (talk) 13:33, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- All very interesting. I think that we are all agreed that there was no such place as "Albania" in the 18th century. The scope and title must change or the category must go. Laurel Lodged (talk) 12:29, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

The Arvanites are basically Hellenized Albanians, and the Arbëreshë people are Italianized Albanians. Dimadick (talk) 13:33, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

- This discussion needs to be about the whole of Category:18th-century Albanian people and the earlier centuries. And how can they be Albanian bishops if Albania didnt exist? Rathfelder (talk) 10:58, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: Synonymous subcategory that includes only the main article, Electromagnetism. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 02:19, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
- Keep and expand/disseminate one of the four fundamental interactions. There's a slew of physics associated with this. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 18:10, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Keep but purge. – Fayenatic London 13:01, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: It's too subjective what counts as a child prodigy, Also, for many of the characters who mostly appear as adults, it's not defining JDDJS (talk to me • see what I've done) 02:02, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
- Comment: too subjective: What do reliable sources say? Apokrif (talk) 03:21, 12 May 2022 (UTC)
- If kept, purge. For example Sam Beckett was not portrayed as a child. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:11, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
- Keep, but prune. Some the entries are legit and defining, e.g. Doogie Howser, M.D..--Mvqr (talk) 10:16, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
- Keep but purge, as List of fictional child prodigies defines it clearly enough, as does child prodigy. ― Qwerfjkltalk 21:43, 4 June 2022 (UTC)
- Keep, but purge as it's certainly a defining trait and some entries are actual child prodigies such as Jimmy Neutron and Edward Elric. SuperSkaterDude45 (talk) 05:56, 5 June 2022 (UTC)
