Kusma's RfA

[edit]

As you have noticed, my RfA has recently passed. I was surprised and rather pleased by the amount of support and the lack of oppose votes, both of which are probably for a large part due to your excellent and enthusiastic nomination. I hope I can find some ways to help you in the future - just ask when you have anything you need admin or German-speaking assistance with. Thanks again, Kusma (討論) 13:46, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reconsider...University of Limerick History Society

[edit]

It is highly unfair that you have chosen to pick this article for deletion, since it is work in progress. To encourage the participation of sudents in socities it is necessary to create a full and accurate reference to each club and society. The page is not yet finished and awaits information on the Journal History Studies which is the only student-run academic journal in Ireland and one of the few in Europe. This is a serious and prominent achievement. You suggestion that the society has won no awards is inaccurate and you have displayed little patience in awaiting the completion of the article.

An entry on this fine site without completion is necessary for students to have an initial referral and for present Doctors and Professors who are former members of the Society.

The individuals listed are only the committee and not the full membership.

I have been instructed to request that you reconsider your suggestion and allow for the completion of this page. Thankyou for your time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Noblecitizen (talkcontribs)

Hello, I have nominated the page for deletion on the grounds that I do not believe the club meets to the notability criteria to merit a page on Wikipedia. The award that you have entered in the article appears to be that it has won an award for being the best club in the University, which is not sufficient of its own accord unless there are other clubs in the university which are notable for wikipedia. Nominations are not made on the basis of whether the article is good or incomplete, but whether there is an assertion in the article as to why the subject is notable, which in this case it would appear not to be. Also, I do not believe that nominating an article for deletion amounts to a violation of WP:BITE as it is a comment on the worthiness of the subject, not the writing or contributing ability of yourself. A similar case occurred a few months ago at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Adelaide University Engineering Society. If you would like to debate this, please put comments on the deletion page, rather than blanking it and asserting that the deletion is invalid. Influence of the nominator on RfAs

[edit]

I disagree with you about the influence of the nominator being larger than that of the nomination statement. Very few Wikipedians will have lots of people following their suggestion without a reasonable explanation. That Durin's nominations always sail through is not only because everybody trusts Durin, but also because he writes excellent nomination statements that clearly show the activity of the candidate in different parts of Wikipedia. I have seen several people who could have passed otherwise fail their RfAs due to poorly researched or lazily written RfA nominations. To me, a nomination statement containing no research into the contributions ("He has 2000 edits and should be an admin!") is a big minus if I don't already know the candidate, so I certainly believe it makes a difference. So I believe your nomination statement made quite a difference (the statement in your other RfA nom was also very good). You also shouldn't underestimate your prominence/reputation - an extremely active editor such as you (your edit counts are amazing and seem almost unhealthy ;-) ) will soon be widely known. Congratulations on getting your list featured, by the way: Featured content is one of the areas that I still know very little about, but I hope Georg Forster will be there soon (of course my long-term plan is to get Portal:Germany featured, but that needs a lot of background work). Happy editing, Kusma (討論) 02:27, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Blnguyen, I'm just informing that Monicasdude removed your prod from the Elizabeth Kerner article. You may wish to use AfD tags instead when you wish to nominate an article for deletion. --Strothra 03:48, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I believe that it is nn too but you may wish to check on his comment about there being some sort of 3 book rule for publishers. In that case, the article would only deserve a cleanup tag concerning its importance. I took the liberty of replacing your prod, you may wish to remove this if you do the AfD. --Strothra 03:58, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A biography worth noting

[edit]

Please reconsider your suggestion to remove my article entitled "Eric Goertz". I admit the article needs editing and a more passive tone so as not to seem like an attack article. Wikipedia is one of the only places I can think of where media coverage also known as "yellow journalism" might be recognized as heinous and discussed. Eric's case is similar to Borf's (the stencil artist convicted in Washington DC). The county of Palm Beach certainly did not consider Eric a minor criminal as they wrongfully charged him with over $1,000,000 dollars worth of property damage. The things the police did to him were even worse, but mentioning them would be considered an "attack". Thanks for listening and...

My question is, "Would you shoot an artist?"

Re: Your health

[edit]

Hello Blnguyen, thanks for your get well message! Stephen Turner (Talk) 11:02, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you should consider splitting the AfD, since it would be easier to decide which others were not notable if they were on different sections for voting purposes, and given that the main AfD seems to be sure of getting through given the comments so far. Ansell 04:25, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

VandalProof 1.1 is Now Available For Download

[edit]

Happy Easter to all of you, and I hope that this version may fix your current problems and perhaps provide you with a few useful new tools. You can download version 1.1 at User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof. Let me warn you, however, to please be extremely careful when using the new Rollback All Contributions feature, as, aside from the excessive server lag it would cause if everyone began using it at once, it could seriously aggitate several editors to have their contributions reverted. If you would like to experiment with it, though, I'd be more than happy to use my many sockpuppets to create some "vandalism" for you to revert. If you have any problems downloading, installing, or otherwise, please tell me about them at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs and I will do my best to help you. Thanks. Question

[edit]

You wrote this on a current bio AfD: "their PB is 7% and 5% outside the WR". I was wondering what that means. I'm not complaining, actually it sounds like it could be useful stat, but what it is and how is it derived? thx. Herostratus 05:39, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FYI...This article is up for vote on AFD. OSU80 01:23, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It never ceases to amaze me how people think they can trawl user talk pages to advertise AfD votes. People will find them if they are either involved with the page or are interested in AfD's. Ansell 01:28, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, per the above attack comment, there isn't any policy against reminding users about AFD's. Thanks. OSU80 01:44, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
How exactly was that an attack comment? It was a neutral statement of my view on the matter. I wasn't personally referring to you. Ansell 01:51, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I will continue this disscussion on the appropriate userpage. Thanks. OSU80 01:58, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello everybody. Generally it is probably not a good idea to lobby for AfDs and RfAs, but seeing as I participated in the last two, and probably because I voted delete - they contacted me. I don't mind this when there is a re-run. Also on RfAs if I have given someone a barnstar, then I would like to be reminded if I wasn't aware that they were up for promotion. ProfessorCalculus

[edit]

Hi Blnguyen. I came to your user page following your comment on User:Bhadani's talk page. I noticed that you have put Image:ProfessorCalculus.png on your user page. That image is tagged as a fair-use image. Wikipedia:Fair use says that "Fair use images should only be used in the article namespace. Used outside article space, they are often enough not covered under the fair use doctrine. They should never be used on templates (including stub templates and navigation boxes) or on user pages."

It would be better if you don't use that image. - Aksi_great (talk) 10:51, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's sad you had to remove the pic (I hope you find a free one to replace it), but it would have probably been somewhat of an obstacle in an RfA process, and correctly so (admins should follow the copyright policy). An AfD runs for five days, or until an administrator decides that a consensus has been reached. There was pretty clearly a consensus. DS 02:40, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Electoral districts

[edit]

I only made it small because there were so many of them that it was taking up a fair bit of space; feel free to revert if you preferred the larger version. My unalphabetisation was a mistake - there were a couple of formatting errors in there before, and in trying to fix them, I completely messed it up. Eep. Finally, as for the members of electorates, your best bet is probably to get your hands on a copy of the parliamentary record. These are published at the end of each term, and are only published in hardcopy. Among other things, they've got profiles and complete member lists for every division in Qld history. I've been working off these for my members of the Queensland Legislative Assembly series - they're really useful if you can get your hands on one. I have access to them through the National Library, but your state library could be of use, or if you're in Queensland, maybe a local library. Ambi 04:42, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A landslide victory for The JPS (aka RFA thanks)

[edit]
Hey, YellowMonkey/Archive4, thank you so much for your vote and comments in my RfA, which passed with an overwhelming consensus of 95/2/2. I was very surprised and flattered that the community has entrusted me with these lovely new toys. I ripped open the box and started playing with them as soon as I got them, and I've already had the pleasure of deleting random nonsense/attacks/copyvios tonight.
If I ever do anything wrong, or can help in some way, please feel free to drop me a line on my talk page, and I will do my best to correct my mistake, or whatever...
Now, to that bottle of wine waiting for me...

Much thanks for the barnstar! I am enjoying the process of incorporating an entire reference work into this project of ours...your recognition is what keeps people like me going. Paul 02:25, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Community Justice Newsletter

[edit]

Community Justice Newsletter

Welcome
Previously, various notices regarding Community Justice have gone out to our members; though this is the first actual newsletter. This issue will contain information regarding decisions made on the first meeting, our new council, and more...!

If you wish to unsubscribe to future newsletters, please add your name to Wikipedia:Community Justice/Do Not Spam.

New Council
Following our first elections, a new council has been elected.Computerjoe and Ian13 remain as chairman and chief executive (respectively); while Eddieh, Wiki alf and Xchrisblackx are replaced as councillors by Ilyanep, Osbus and Covington. The Giant Puffin and Pureblade remain as councillors.
Member Conduct
In the last meeting, the conduct of 4 members was discussed. Ethnopunk will be put on probation, supervised by Ian13, if he/she is incivil during this probation, he/she will be expelled from WP:CJ; the same was decided for Misza13 (voluntarily), and his probation will be supervised by Computerjoe. No action will be taken against Computerjoe.
Barnstar
The Civility Barnstar which our members have designed has been sent to Barnstar and award proposals. We'd appreciate your feedback!

Also, we are planning to make a Community Justice barnstar to give to hard-working CJ members. If you're a budding designer, consider trying to make it, then post your proposal to WT:CJ!

Name and logo change
There has been no consensus reached regarding changing our name and/or logo neither at WT:CJ nor at WT:CJ/M/1. While suggestions are still welcome, no action will be taken at this time.
Programs
We are going to try to create programs to more actively involve our members. If you have any ideas, please drop a line at WT:CJ. We will try to work with WP:ESP on one of these programs, at some point in the future.
Thanks!
Thank you for your time. If you need anything, feel free to comment at WT:CJ or come into our IRC channel [1].

Computerjoe wishes to extend his thanks to User:Robchurch, a non-member who assisted in making {{tracker}} redundant, as well as Misza13 for his continued support and to the whole of this and the previous council.

This newsletter was delivered by CJBot, written by Computerjoe, with technical help from Misza13. Computerjoe's talk 19:30, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
