December 2014 GOCE newsletter
Guild of Copy Editors December 2014 Newsletter
Drive: Thanks to everyone who participated in November's Backlog Elimination Drive. Of the 43 people who signed up for this drive, 26 copy edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Progress report: The November Drive removed 26 requests from the Requests page and 509 articles from the {{copy edit}} backlog. We copy edited 83 articles tagged in the target months; July, August, and September 2013. Together with tag removals from articles unsuitable for copy editing, we eliminated July 2013 from the backlog and reduced August and September's tags to 61 and 70 respectively. As of 01:01, 1 December 2014 (UTC), the backlog stood at 1,974 articles, dipping below 2,000 for the first time in the Guild's history (see graph at right). Well done everyone! Blitz: The December Blitz will run from December 14–20 and will focus on articles related to Religion, in recognition of this month's religious holidays in much of the English-speaking world. Awards will be given out to everyone who copy edits at least one of the target articles. Sign up here! Election time again: The election of coordinators to serve from 1 January to 30 June 2015 is now underway. Candidates can nominate themselves or others from December 01, 00:01 (UTC), until December 15, 23:59. The voting period will run from December 16, 00:01 (UTC), until December 31, 23:59. You can read about coordinators' duties here. Please consider getting involved and remember to cast you vote—it's your Guild and it doesn't organize itself! Thank you all once again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve anything without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Baffle gab1978, and Miniapolis. External links
Respectfully,
No external links should take one to copyrighted material. This would be in violation of wikipedia policy.
Therefore, there are no longer any links on this item description. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shiedlfreu (talk • contribs) 20:44, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- If that was correct we would not link to any external websites as 99.99% of them are copyright. You are confusing the guidelines around sites like YouTube where users often upload copyvio material. There is no principal of copyright law that prohibits links to websites that are copyright.--ukexpat (talk) 20:58, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Governance Institute of Australia
Hi Ukexpat,
I am just replying to the email you sent me yesterday.
While i understand that Wikipedia must strive for neutrality in all aspects, I was simply changing the name of the page as the company 'Chartered Secretaries of Australia' no longer exists as we changed to Governance institute of Australia last year.
I am new to using Wikipedia so sorry if I breached any rules but can you explain how I would have changed this without doing it myself? And surely striving for accuracy in Wikipedia is incredibly important?
If I need to do something or speak to someone re moving the page please let me know.
Thanks

- The accepted process when you have a conflict of interest is to request changes, including page moves, on the article's talk page. No harm done in this case, but in future please use the talk page to request further changes. Thanks.--ukexpat (talk) 01:32, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Raj Chowdhury
Hi Ukexpat, Thanks for your work on improving wiki articles. While I agree with most of your edits, I think your edits on article Raj Chowdhury removed some important info. In addition deleting or moving around parts of the article deteriorated the overall quality of the article. External links that were added earlier were also removed. I have undone the edits. Hope you will be alright with it. Appreciate your work. Shaunsshaw 10:40 PM PST — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shaunsshaw (talk • contribs) 06:41, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
- I am sorry but I completely disagree. All that company stuff is way too detailed for an article about the individual. If they meet the WP:CORP guidelines, write articles about them and put all that stuff, suitably depuffed, into those articles. You also did a wholesale reversion leaving in unnecessary crap about mother Teresa, the woman who rented him a room etc. This is not encyclopedic and does not belong in the article, maybe in a Bollywood movie about his life in 30 years time. I am going to unrevert and begin a discussion on the talk page.--ukexpat (talk) 13:48, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

Neo-Advaita
Hi Ukexpat. I've added a talkpage-link to your POV-tag at Neo-Advaita. An explanation of your tag would be welcome, per template:POV:
- "Drive-by tagging is strongly discouraged. The editor who adds the tag should discuss concerns on the talk page, pointing to specific issues that are actionable within the content policies. In the absence of such a discussion, or where it remains unclear what the NPOV violation is, the tag may be removed by any editor."

Help on Michiel Huisman's account
I have tried to add a profile picture to Michiel Huisman's wiki page, but I was not able to do it due to all the copy rights stuff. I feel he should be given a profile picture due to all the prominent roles he has had on TV and in movies lately. For example Game of Thrones. If anyone could add one I would appreciate it because I think he deserves it. I know it's not really a question, more of a request. I am just so new to Wikipedia that's all.

Merlin Entertainments
You obviously understand the sysyem much better than us. We are merely trying to make sure that the information included is accurate which it was not - I am Corporate Affairs head of owners Merlin Entertainments. We are struggling given so much is not right on our sites - even the corporate logo and we cannot see how to change it - any advice gratefully received! Not even sure this response is right! Thanks in advance(86.25.141.2 (talk) 15:57, 21 January 2015 (UTC))
Sorry I know I have a'conflict of interest' in your terms re changes to Legoland/Merlin changes - but all I am trying to do is make sure the facts/figures are correct which they are not. I am Public Affairs Chief for Merlin and happy to declare this but no idea from any of this how I do thisa - sorry — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.25.141.2 (talk) 16:52, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
- OK first they are not "your sites", they are articles on Wikipedia about the company that you happen to work for. As such they are not extensions of your branding, marketing and advertising activities and should not be used as such. The appropriate way to deal with the edits that you think should be made for accuracy is to request them on the talk/discussion pages of the articles, providing sources that meet the requirements of WP:RS. To declare your COI, you should edit your user page and leave a notice there about it. Your user page is at: User:The firm comms. There is also the point about your user name - it is in breach of our user name policy because it represents a company or organisation. User names are personal to a single individual, must not represent, or appear to represent a company, group etc and must not be shared. --ukexpat (talk) 17:28, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

Damion Scott Infobox photo discussion
Hi. Damion Scott has taken issue with the photo in his article. He previously demanded that I replace it with one that I thought inferior to the one already in the Infobox, and has now replaced with a third one of his own. In the interest of WP:CONSENSUS, can you offer your opinion on this? Thanks again. Nightscream (talk) 19:23, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
