Congratualtions to the promotion to FA. I assume the article will soon appear on the WP Frontpage, so it might be worthwhile to try and find a freely licensed picture of the band. I'll ask around if anyone is willing to post a picture on Flickr or Commons. ~ trialsanderrors 05:18, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Illinois Portal is looking great. I added some featured lists and pictures. You may want to monitor WP:CHICAGO for other reviewed content. We have many bios that are at least WP:GAs.

If you wouldn't mind, could you add in the other GA articles from Chicago to the Illinois portal. We are slowly starting to tag them for Illinois also, but it just takes time. Also, how would I go about adding all those DYKs? Chicago has a bunch, and I know someone else who has a ton about Illinois. Just edit and paste them in? Maybe I will play around with that a bit.--Kranar drogin 16:21, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I've restored and expanded the previously deleted article on Brian Paulson. I'm sure there are enough reasons to consider him notable, but articles on him are hard to come by, so if you have material to add, especially from the Kot book, it would be much appreciated. ~ trialsanderrors 18:39, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In the Absence of Truth GA fail

[edit]

I can't fault you on failing the article at all, especially with regards to the lack of a recording or promo section. I was generally just trying to make the best of what little information there seems to be out there. Anyway, I haven't come here to gripe - I'm just interested in your comment on the album cover. I've replaced it with a smaller one for now, but I got the original, large picture from a press area of the record label's website. That would lead me to presume that they want the image to be distributed and used for purposes just as this, but I might be wrong. Any thoughts? Seegoon 14:20, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have noticed your great work on Uncle Tupelo, Sky Blue Sky, Wilco discography Wilco, Jeff Tweedy, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot A.M. (album), A Ghost Is Born, Being There (album), and Loose Fur.

Since both Wilco and Loose Fur have categories in them which cause them to be included set of articles that are tagged by bot with {{ChicagoWikiProject}}, it might make sense for the band members, albums, and related discographies to have similar categories. I was looking at Jeff Tweedy and noticed that he has Category:People from Belleville, Illinois and Category:Illinois musicians in his article. If he had Category:People from Chicago or Category:Chicago musicians in his article then he would be tagged with {{ChicagoWikiProject}} and thus they would fall under WP:CHICAGO. As WP:CHICAGO director, I would like to monitor these musicians, but I generally leave category decision to the editors of the pages. Please make whatever category decisions you feel would be correct with this in mind for all band members, the bands, albums and all discographies. Toss me a reply about this topic if you get a chance.

Also, are you aware of the WP:FTC feature. It seems with a little strategizing on which article is the main article you may be close to a solid WP:FT.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 02:14, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I see you have been going gangbusters at Portal:Chicago. We could surely use someone to keep up with the portal. The Portal:Illinois is WP:FPOC. It would be great for Chicago to keep up with them. Let me know your intentions with the portal. By the way, I see you have listed under featured content the Wilco discography. This article neither has a {{ChicagoWikiProject}} tag, nor any categories indicating it is a Chicago related article. I am not sure discographies or albums belong to cities. Comments welcome on this topic. This topic is related to other comments above.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 05:36, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FL Main page proposal

[edit]

You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination recently. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual content will resemble the current content at the featured content page. Such output would probably start at the bottom of the main page. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 19:00, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FLC criteria

[edit]

"Last time I checked, we're supposed to have some sort of consensus before failing an article."

Well, perhaps the criteria has changed since the last time you checked. Quite often, a list will will be closed as a no consensus if it has been up more than 10 days and there is quite clearly no way there will be some kind of consensus. A list does not need a consensus to fail, quite often they fail because of a lack of consensus. That is the way your list was, so it was closed. It has been up for 16 days and no new messages had been left for 10, so you quite clearly had enough time to address concerns. So next time, don't blame the closer. -- Scorpion0422 16:23, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 17:53, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Ray_lamontagne.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Ray_lamontagne.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 16:32, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:The-Fray-promo.jpg)

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading Image:The-Fray-promo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. LaraLove 18:18, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" chart help

[edit]

Hey, someone pointed out on the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" talk page that the song showed up on this chart which I've never heard of. Additionally, the ranking isn't included in the Nirvana chart history on the Billboard website, or on the Billboard chart placings located on Allmusic. Can you look into this and confirm the chart peak with a reference? WesleyDodds (talk) 04:42, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Portal:Chicago/Nominate/Selected article, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Portal:Chicago/Nominate/Selected article is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Portal:Chicago/Nominate/Selected article, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Replaceable fair use Image:Loosefur.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Loosefur.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 13:20, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a graduate student at Cornell University who's interested in studying how editors collaborate on Wikipedia. I noticed that you were an active editor on the Wilco & Uncle Tupelo pages and I was hoping that you might be willing to talk to me briefly about your involvement with Wilco-related articles.

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:SiegelSchwall.jpg.

Please sign up at Wikipedia:CHICAGO/leadership if you would be willing to serve as a leader of the project from September 1, 2008 to February 28, 2009. Change in FT Criteria

[edit]

Hey, I thought I'd notify you about this discussion, which is proposing to change the percentage of featured content required for a featured topic from 25% to 33%. This would affect the Wilco albums topic, as it would then be one article short of the required number. It seems that consensus is forming that the change will occur on April 1, and that topics no longer meeting the FT criteria will automatically become good topics at this time. Any input you have would be much valued - rst20xx (talk) 15:33, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This has now gone through, so you have until April 1st to get one more FA, and if this doesn't happen, the topic will automatically become a good topic on that date. Thanks! - rst20xx (talk) 17:19, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request to move article Wilco (US band) incomplete

[edit]

You recently filed a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves to move the page Wilco (US band) to a different title - however your proposal is either incomplete or has been contested as being controversial. As a result, it has been moved to the incomplete and contested proposals section. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.

Please make sure you have completed all three of the following:

  1. Added {{move|NewName}} at the top of the talk page of the page you want moved, replacing "NewName" with the new name for the article. This creates the required template for you there.
  2. Added a place for discussion at the bottom of the talk page of the page you want to be moved. This can easily be accomplished by adding {{subst:RMtalk|NewName|reason for move}} to the bottom of the page, which will automatically create a discussion section there.
  3. Added {{subst:RMlink|PageName|NewName|reason for move}} to the top of today's section here.

If you need any further guidance, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Requested moves or contact me on my talk page. - JPG-GR (talk) 02:06, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Something that made me think of you

[edit]

I was watching an interview of the Chili Peppers while they were in Finland and the interviewer asked them to name two facts about the country and Flea replied "One fact about Finland is that John Coltrane was not born in Finland. For sure. And the other fact about Finland is that Teemu Selänne was born in Finland. That guy that plays hockey. He's very Finnish." Extremely random, yeah, but it instantly made me think of you. Help needed on exact condition on draft pick in Wisniewski/Pahlsson trade

[edit]

Hello,

since you live in the Chicago area and have frequently updated the recent Blackhawks season article in the past, I figured you might be able to help in finding out the exact condition in said trade. The fact is needed for the "Information on conditional draft picks" section in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft article.

Hawks GM Dale Tallon only said something about "the pick is subject on how far (Chicago gets) in the playoffs", but this is a little too general. An internet research came out without any result as well, so I'm looking for external help on the matter now. Do you know any sources where I might find anything about the exact condition? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Soccer-holic (talk) 14:14, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Live at Electric Factory 1.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Live at Electric Factory 1.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Geniac (talk) 20:10, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, the creation of the Wilco's 7th studio album article means the topic has 3 months, or until 21st July, to get the article peer reviewed and added to the topic. And then from the release date of the album, the topic will have another 3 months to get the article to GA, as per standard procedure.

To be honest though, I'm not completely happy with this topic anyway, and am considering nominating it for removal. The scope of the topic is "Wilco's albums", and yet Mermaid Avenue and Mermaid Avenue Vol. II are missing. Okay, both were performed with Billy Bragg, and the songs were all old Woody Guthrie songs, but they are still Wilco albums, and I think excluding them constitutes cherry picking. They are debatably studio albums (though that's hard to define here methinks). I don't see how they are any less notable than Kicking Television: Live in Chicago, which IS included. (And even if it wasn't then that would just mean that 3 albums are missing instead of 2.) Sorry... rst20xx (talk) 19:17, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
