Yet another NPP question

Hey, I hope you've been doing well lately. I was wondering if A10 is relevant if the duplicates are both new? There were two different articles created minutes apart by two different editors: E.A.T and E.A.T. (Philippine TV program). As far as I can tell, they're both about the same television show. Both articles are really short; one doesn't have any sources at all, and the other technically has two (one of which is Twitter). But it's actually the second of the two pages that has more detail, so I doubt A10 would actually be applicable. Is there something else I should be thinking of? I feel a bit confused because I'm thinking of what I should do in this specific situation. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 09:15, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi. A10 might be appropriate, but boldly merging two articles would not be out of place. If you do not feel like being bold, you could propose a merge. In this particular instance, however, there is really nothing to merge, so I would simply redirect the one dab'd title to the more concise title. Onel5969 TT me 09:20, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi Onel5969, could you please review my draft?

USAF aircraft serial numbers

I noticed that you made an AWB edit to Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird that replaced the hyphen in several USAF serial numbers with a dash. The proper format for USAF and US Army serial numbers is with a hyphen. It's an easy mistake to make, and probably easier to overlook while using AWB. I just want to let you know to be more careful when making AWB edits to aircraft articles. - ZLEA T\C 22:18, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

Articles sent to draft

Hey when you get a chance could you tell me what parts of the article need a reference and what parts do not so I know what references I need to find in order to send it back out of draft space? Hoopstercat (talk) 14:42, 4 July 2023 (UTC)

The first contains a bit too much close paraphrasing to [cowleyabbott.ca/artwork/AW42542 this link], and the second is on the border as well, to [cowleyabbott.ca/artwork/AW42558 this link]. Also, you should really have a lead in both and then an article body. But they are notable. If you re-work them, let me know and I'll have another gander. Onel5969 TT me 14:10, 8 July 2023 (UTC)

Orphan tag in my article "Siege of Menzelinsk"

Is it possible to remove the orphan tag in this article?I added a link to this article in the article "Bashkir rebellion of 1681-1684" Turbo Sheri (talk) 10:58, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

Absolutely. Once you add the link, feel free to remove the tag. Tags aren't punishment, they are simply there to let editors know that something is needed. Once the need has been fulfilled, the tag can be removed. Onel5969 TT me 11:07, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

How to do straight apostrophes?

Thanks for cleaning up the curly apostrophes in my recent new article. This keeps happening to me with apostrophes and quotation marks. Do you have any advice on how I can stop generating curly marks? I mostly draft things in MS Word and then paste into Wikipedia. Is it something to do with the font I'm using for drafting (Calibri)? Masato.harada (talk) 12:00, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi. Yes, it happens when you copy/paste from a program which uses curly apostrophes. So you can do one of two things: 1)After you cut and paste, manually delete each apostrope/quote and re-type directly in WP. That exchanges them; or 2)Change the way apostrophes/quotes are written in Word, before you cut and paste. To do that:
  1. Select the File menu and select Options.
  2. On the Proofing tab, select AutoCorrect Options and select the AutoFormat as You Type tab.
  3. Clear the "Straight quotes" with “smart quotes” check box.
  4. Select OK, and OK again.
That will have Word use straight quotes/apostrophes to begin with. Hope this helps. Onel5969 TT me 12:30, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

Reviewing additional articles

Hi again @Onel5969,

When you have a chance, can you take a look at the pages Misha Marvin, Hanna (Russian singer) and Mayot (singer)? Both the Marvin and Mayot pages seem to be C-Class articles (according to the page patrol), so I think they might be good to go, and the Hanna article was recently translated. Please let me know what you think of them and potentially mark them as reviewed. Thank you in advance. Losipov (talk) 21:08, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

Dear Editor: Could you look at this article I wrote and mark it as reviewed if okay. Many thanks. Joan arden murray (talk) 10:38, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

NPP advice

An editor releases multiple articles into main space , obviously unfinished, such as 2023 Zug Open, 2023 Zug Open Doubles etc. I move them to draft space, they revert. I opened a discussion at their talk page for a similar event before, but they don't answer. I again commented after I draftified them today. But no answers but reverts. What would you do in such a situation? I opened a discussion at the admin who granted them autopatrolled a few years ago, for now, but now they reverted and I am bit searching for advice. Paradise Chronicle (talk) 13:12, 22 July 2023 (UTC)

Greetings. I'm probably not the best person to ask questions about contested draftifications. I've come to realize that there are quite a few admins and editors on this site who really have zero interest in the quality of the stuff which gets into WP. It's the reason I stopped actively doing my NPP patrol. Why bother? I used to believe it was one of the most important functions on the project, but with the plethora of some pretty vocal admins/editors who don't mind a bunch of crap being on the site, I realize it was simply a waste of time. You've done everything you could do to attempt to guide the editor to improve the article. I find the admin's response to you being unhelpful except that you might want to open an ANI discussion about this user. Sorry, I wish I could offer you sage and helpful advice. Orphan articles for addition to List of rural localities in Tatarstan

Greetings One5959 - Please check out here information I posted to this list's Talk page concerning over 80 Tatarstan orphan articles for July 2023. Regards, JoeNMLC (talk) 13:40, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

Greetings Onel5969, Can you revert your change to National Weather Service Duluth, Minnesota page to when i added KXI44 Ely please? I kept the links for the counties for a reason for reference so it is not an orphan. You can keep the orphan tag. Just revert the page to the KXI44 edit and re-link the links you deleted.

Juraj Rukavina

Hi! Thanks for improving Juraj Rukavina article titles. One thing though: there will likely be another Juraj Rukavina (1898-1945) - the one referred to in the Independent State of Croatia articles where I reverted your recent edits. Cheers! Tomobe03 (talk) 21:12, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

American football stubs

Wikipedia guidelines were changed early last year to require all sports biographies to have at least one piece of WP:SIGCOV (not counting database entries). In recent months, there have been efforts to draftify en masse sport substubs that do not comply with this requirement. Accordingly, we have begun a campaign to improve American football biographies that could be targeted in a similar RfC. This list identifies some of the articles that are the most vulnerable based on the new guidelines. Two of the listed articles are ones that you created: Joe Carroll (American football) and Bobby Howard (running back).

The list includes articles I created as well, and it is not intended as criticism of you or anyone else, as such stubs were permitted prior to the change in policy. Instead, the purpose is to encourage each of us to clean up these stubs so as to avoid draftification or deletion. I am hoping that you will revisit these articles to add the required SIGCOV. Thanks, Cbl62 (talk) 00:10, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. I don't really have much interest in sports stubs, not sure why I created them. But I've fleshed them out a bit, with enough sourcing to pass WP:GNG. Onel5969 TT me 01:23, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

Greetings and...

Greetings Onel5969! First of all, thank you for reviewing the articles I create. I appreciate it: it never ceases to amaze me that, however many times one goes over the same text, them there pesky gremlins invariably crop up wherever and whenever one least expects them...

That said, given that "Formal names of military units, including armies,... and so forth, are proper names and should be capitalized." (MOS:MILTERMS) I'd like to get your feedback on why you don't seem to agree with "my" use of "Army of the Centre", etc., when these are clearly the official titles, albeit translated from Spanish, of the military units in question, not merely an author's description of where they are being deployed.

My main source for this series of articles is Oman's comprehensive history, e.g. A History of the Peninsular War, Vol. IV. at Project Gutenberg, which capitalizes these units. Other examples include Army of the North (disambiguation), First Army, etc.

Please note that I'm not saying you're wrong! I'm just curious to know whether I need to update the style guide in my brain... Regards, Technopat (talk) 16:36, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi. No, that's my bad, I didn't recognize it as the title of the army. I've reverted. Onel5969 TT me 19:49, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

Unwelcome orphan template via AWB

Your recent edit at Black market in wartime France via AWB added an {{Orphan}} template to the article within three hours of its being released to mainspace. This template was unwelcome, and you should not have placed it. Indeed, the article was an orphan, which is normal for new articles. You're aware, I presume, that articles in mainspace may not link to Drafts or to User subpages, so that articles in development never have any inlinks (other than redlinks), and are therefore more often than not, orphans? Accordingly, there is no reason to tag brand new articles as orphans, because that is normal, and to be expected. It takes some time after release, to create the in-links that connect the new article to the encyclopedia. You might want to set an internal timer of, say, 72 hours before you tag any recently realsed article as an orphan.

By the way, Black market in wartime France is not an orphan now, though it was one some minutes ago; it now has seventeen links from main space. In the future, please don't mark any articles recently released to mainspace as an orphan until a reasonable interval has passed. As a secondary issue, you might want to consider whether it's worth templating a senior editor for an elementary issue relating to new article release, when they have hundreds of released articles, instead of just asking them in a personal message, first. But I'm willing to believe that that comes from being pushed around by AWB, so I don't hold you solely responsible. Nevertheless, you are responsible for all edits suggested by AWB, so don't let it push you around. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 10:07, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

Nope. You're wrong. And uncivil. There is no time limit, as there is never any prescient knowledge that any existing issue with the article will be addressed. By the way, thanks for updating the article. But do not post on my talk page again. Also, btw, the orphan tag was part of a larger edit which cleaned up the entire article. Yes, it's been de-orphaned. Nice job. It's also very easy to check. On the left side of the screen, under "Tools", there's a link "What links here". Click on that, and if there is even a single other mainspace article listed there (in this case there are now 3: List of bakeries, Bukit Bintang City Centre , and Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre), then it is no longer an orphan.
