It was fun writing in the Wikipedia; I enjoyed making it more readable, fixing up the bad grammar, and I felt I was doing something useful in posting some of the finding of the latest research papers in the Wikipedia. However, right now, I feel like all I am doing is feeding trolls that know little on the subject they edit and come to play games. So guys I am out of here, I may come back say about a year's time, if it improves here.

I thank everyone. who sent me a thank you for my edits. At one stage I was getting them everyday which I thought was a pretty good going as I did not post that much on the Wikipedia but I think it was because my access to research papers is way about average. I read a science journal almost daily. BernardZ (talk)

I think I might know what that feels like. Can you email me ruben@mrbrklyn.com

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Revert with care

[edit]

You added a broken half-sentence and a new citation to Mbah Gotho, so I correctly formatted your citation (please, in future, use a cite template) and removed your broken half-sentence. You then reverted this, leaving me to re-format your citation. As an apparently seasoned editor, you should probably know that reverting is a careful business. Although you did little damage here, that attitude can be dangerous, taking little regard for the actual individual changes made in an edit. Please be careful in future, cheers. -- Pingumeister(talk) 17:49, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

March Madness 2017

[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

[edit]

Saw you edited this (with a youtube source). See Talk:2017 Finsbury Park attack#Background and proposed text at bottom (Auslondoner is being difficult and isn't really constructively discussing - just blanket reverting) - which is sourced properly from today:

Finsbury Park Mosque has gained attention for the activity of radical Imam Abu Hamza al-Masri, in the early 2000s.[1] Hamza's activities in the mosque are cited as direct influences of Zacarias Moussaoui one of the architects of the September 11 attacks, Richard Reid the so called shoe-bomber, and Mohammed Sidique Khan the suspected organizer of the 7 July 2005 London bombings.[2][3][4] The Mosque was shut down in 2003, and re-opened under a new board of trustees two years later.

Formal mediation has been requested

[edit]
The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "TORRENTPROJECT". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 1 November 2017.

Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page. Thank you.

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

[edit]

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. User group for Military Historians

[edit]

Greetings,

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Edit war warning

[edit]
Stop icon

Your recent editing history at The Exodus shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Using talk pages

[edit]

Hi BernardZ. I was trying to read the discussion at Talk:Exodus and it is very difficult due to the way you are formatting your comments.

There are conventions for this in Wikipedia.

In Talk page discussions, we "thread" comments by indenting (see WP:THREAD) - when you reply to someone, you put a colon in front of your comment, which the Wikipedia software will render into an indent when you save your edit; if the other person has indented once, then you indent twice by putting two colons in front of your comment, which the WP software converts into two indents, and when that gets ridiculous you reset back to the margin (or "outdent") by putting this {{od}} in front of your comment. This also allows you to make it clear if you are also responding to something that someone else responded to if there are more than two people in the discussion; in that case you would indent the same amount as the person just above you in the thread. I hope that all makes sense.

Copying the other person's comments as you are doing, is confusing and cluttering, and not what we normally do.

Please be aware that threading (and signing, which you are happily doing) is fundamental etiquette here, as basic as "please" and "thank you", and continually failing to thread and sign communicates rudeness, and eventually people may start to ignore you (see here). Please follow this convention. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 17:19, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A summary of site policies and guidelines you may find useful

[edit]
  • Please sign your posts on talk pages with four tildes (~~~~, found next to the 1 key), and please do not alter other's comments.
  • "Truth" is not the criteria for inclusion, verifiability is.
  • We do not publish original thought nor original research. We merely summarize reliable sources without elaboration or interpretation.
  • Reliable sources typically include: articles from magazines or newspapers (particularly scholarly journals), or books by recognized authors (basically, books by respected publishers). Online versions of these are usually accepted, provided they're held to the same standards. User generated sources (like Wikipedia) are to be avoided. Self-published sources should be avoided except for information by and about the subject that is not self-serving (for example, citing a company's website to establish something like year of establishment).
  • Articles are to be written from a neutral point of view. Wikipedia is not concerned with facts or opinions, it just summarizes reliable sources. This usually means that secular academia is given prominence over any individual sect's doctrines, though those doctrines may be discussed in an appropriate section that clearly labels those beliefs for what they are.

Reformulated:

Also, not a policy or guideline, but something important to understand the above policies and guidelines: Wikipedia operates off of objective information, which is information that multiple persons can examine and agree upon. It does not include subjective information, which only an individual can know from an "inner" or personal experience. Most religious beliefs fall under subjective information. Wikipedia may document objective statements about notable subjective claims (i.e. "Christians believe Jesus is divine"), but it does not pretend that subjective statements are objective, and will expose false statements masquerading as subjective beliefs (cf. Indigo children).

You may also want to read User:Ian.thomson/ChristianityAndNPOV. We at Wikipedia are highbrow (snobby), heavily biased for the academia. Tgeorgescu (talk) 10:24, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Grammatical corrections

[edit]

I have reverted several of your edits to articles as grammatical disimprovements. In one case, you even "corrected" the grammar of a direct quotation. In other cases, your edits either changed the meaning from the intended one, or else changed from an established English idiom like "in terms of" to a non-idiomatic substitute "regarding". This message is to inform you that I have blocked your account indefinitely. You're continuing to disruptively make incompetent copyedits in spite of numerous previous messages and an ongoing AN/I thread where a ban is being discussed, and yet you continue to cause disruption while refusing to communicate, something that is required as a matter of policy. If you are causing this disruption unintentionally, it should have already stopped, especially with the ongoing ANI thread. That you refuse to do this is only interpretable as being a matter of vandalism or a matter of incompetence. Either way, you are persistently causing damage to the project, therefore you leave me no choice. Swarm 07:58, 28 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
