New article

Hello again Apterygial. I have started a user draft on the game Horrid Henry: Missions of Mischief. Do you think it's ready to be moved into article space?

TechGenius (talk) 21:02, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Well, the most important thing to consider when you are starting an article is its notability. Effectively, how you prove this is to provide several (at least two, although three is better) independent (i.e., not from people involved in the making or distribution of the game), reliable and verifiable sources as references for your article. This is not always possible, and in which case there is a good chance that such articles would face deletion. In this case, you have one reference, and this is from the publisher of the game. I'll admit it's been quite a long time since I've read anything in depth about any specific video game, but reviews should not be too hard to find, if not online then in magazines. The last step would be to ensure that every fact in the article is supported by the source material you are using. Apterygial 04:36, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Re:Hungary 08

Thank you! I'll probably renominate it for FA status next week.--Midgrid(talk) 10:15, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

I've started the nomination.--Midgrid(talk) 18:06, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Online Ambassadors

Hey, I saw your edits at DYK and clicked over to your user page and was impressed. Have you considering applying to become a Wikipedia:Online Ambassadors? It is a great way to help college students become more familiar with Wikipedia, and make them good long term contributers! Sadads (talk) 19:19, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

It's tempting, but I'm a fairly sporadic editor (I barely edited at all last year). I don't even know if I can consistently offer my time this year. But if you need help every now and then, I would be happy to pitch in. Apterygial 23:25, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

DYK for 1906 French Grand Prix

Orlady (talk) 12:02, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of March. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 50. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. On behalf of my co-coordinator Wizardman, we hope we can see you in March. MuZemike delivered by MuZebot 00:37, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Narasimham Committee on Banking Sector Reforms (1998) ‎

Dear Apterygial,
As suggested by you in the peer review of the above article, I have done a major rework on the above article to improve its readability along with implementing predefined referencing conventions of Wikipedia. Would you be kind enough to take a quick look again and suggest any broad improvements? I know such exercise can be time-consuming on your part and so if you can just give broad highlights of the shortcomings to point me in the right direction, it would be sufficient for me to carry on. I sincerely thank you for your time and effort.
abhishek singh (talk) 02:44, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Sure. Hopefully I can get to it tomorrow. Apterygial 10:56, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your valuable feedback. I will get down to it immediately.

1906 French Grand Prix

Responding to your note, I looked over the changes this morning and posted follow-up notes on the review page. Very enjoyable article. Finetooth (talk) 17:44, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Just seen your note on my talk page, the diagram should be fixed now. I disagree that my efforts on the article are anywhere near that of a main contributor; you've researched and written pretty much the entire article and I've only done a few ancillary bits and pieces. However if you still wish to put me down as a co-nom, then I wouldn't object. Fingers crossed, the article should get a fairly good reception at FAC anyway, providing we can get some eyes to look at it. AlexJ (talk) 22:44, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Good luck with the FAC mate. If you need any more prose pliers then you know where to find me. :-) Malleus Fatuorum 23:11, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

You are too kind. I have one in the works, but it's a long way off at the moment. Apterygial 23:36, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

There were replies to your comments in Princess Maria Amélia of Brazil's FAC nomination. Please respond once you have time. Regards, --Lecen (talk) 12:17, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

1906 French Grand Prix

I did come across it a few days ago, not sure myself that it's deserving of FP status, but I'll let others decide. Good to finally be seeing some comments at the FAC! AlexJ (talk) 23:54, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Congratulations on FA Number Five! AlexJ (talk) 22:41, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Ah, just as the boys enjoyed at Cape Denison during those long winter nights. I've been looking for a decent falafel recipe; I'll just extract the code! Apterygial talk 09:42, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

AMX FAC

We have renominated The Autobiography of Malcolm X for FAC. Your input would be appreciated. — GabeMc (talk) 01:46, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

I'll have a look tonight. As a note, the persistent apostrophe mistake in the nom statement stands out to a pedant. Apterygial talk 05:50, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
Good eye, I fixed it, thanks. — GabeMc (talk) 22:30, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Federation of Stoke on Trent

Thanks for the full review. Certainly a lot to think about but something to work on. I've never pushed an article to FAC before so this is all a learning curve and if it doesn't succeed first time round, well hey. NtheP (talk) 15:47, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

I've had a good go at addressing your comments and someone has copyedited the article, could I ask you to take another look at it and let me know what you think. Thanks. NtheP (talk) 18:23, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
I'll see if I can get there within the next few days. Leaving the PR open may have been a good idea; I'll comment on the talk page instead. Apterygial talk 23:49, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for a second effort. I think all the points are adressed but see the article talk page regarding the last point you raised. NtheP (talk) 17:28, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
Should be alright. Good luck with the article. Apterygial talk 23:58, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Newsletter column on FAC reviewing

We'd like to put a column in our monthly Milhist newsletter encouraging people review at FAC, or at least to assist the frequent FAC reviewers. Is there anything that new reviewers could do at FAC that you would find particularly helpful? (Watching) - Dank (push to talk) 18:49, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

I don't review as much as I like, or probably should. I have a personal policy that when I take an article to FAC I thoroughly review about three or four others, so I give back to the process what I take (I also doing a lot of marking for my job, so reviewing often just feels like I'm still working). For a start, I think the best people to review are people who have experience with FAC on the nominator side: they know what it takes to build an article and they also have been through the process, worked with opposers or people they disagree with, and should know a decent chunk of the MOS and other policy/guidelines. Milhist nominates a lot of articles, so there must be a large pool of previous nominators that can be tapped into. Probably the other thing to remember is that nobody expects you to review every aspect of the article; we have dedicated technical, image and sourcing reviewers so other reviewers can just hop in and point out what they see. In this respect FAC differs from the GAN process, and I actually prefer reviewing at FAC because of it. Hope this helps. Apterygial talk 00:29, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

No worries. Looks like you went through a rough patch at the end of the FAC though; well done for sticking through it. Apterygial talk 00:00, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
