Lee Albert Namey (March 3, 1945 – March 3, 2014) was an American politician and teacher. He served as the Mayor of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, from 1988 to 1996.[2][3]

Biography

Early life

Namey was born on March 3, 1945.[2] His mother, Claire Namey, was a nurse, while his father, Elias Leo Namey, was a prominent labor union leader and member of the Teamsters.[2] Lee Namey's younger brother, Jeffrey Namey, served as the superintendent of the Wilkes-Barre Area School District from 1996 until 2012.[2]

Namey graduated from Meyers High School in 1963, where he had competed as a track sprinter and a football running back.[2] Namey married his wife, Juanita (nee Vincent), in 1965; they had two children, Tara and Angela.[2]

He obtained a bachelor's degree from Wilkes University in 1968.[3] Namey also received a master's degree in fine arts from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1971.[2]

Namey died at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia on March 3, 2014, which was his 69th birthday.[2]
