Your RfA and question
[edit]I understand your reasons for opposing and Im learned that removing red links are sometimes a no-no and spelling counts more than I thought which going to help me in the future. I have a quiestion to ask What is my average edits a day I want to find that out. Thanks --JAranda | watz sup 21:18, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- The problem I have with the spelling and grammar isn't so much the spelling and grammar itself. It's the very lackadaisical attitude it portrays in making edits and that in making content additions to articles you're leaving a lot of work for other copyeditors to fix. It portrays that you simply do not care about the accuracy of your edits. You should be correcting your own errors where possible. Even in this message to me, there are several errors. "Im" instead of "I've", "which going" instead of "which is going", "quiestion" instead of "question", and improper structure of the last sentence. This is abysmal editing. I really didn't want to oppose your RfA on these grounds, but I do feel very strongly about this. Please, please improve. I mean no insult in asking or noting this, I just want to see you improve. As for average number of edits; it stands at 34.5 per day since your first edit on August 21st, and 53.6 over the last 30 days. --Durin 21:27, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- Don't focus on the number of edits, it's understanding the process that really counts. I agree that spelling and grammar are important. Wikipedia's content should not read like a quick e-mail. The more mistakes, such as factual errors, grammar and spelling, that creep into wikipedia the more useless the encyclopedia becomes to future users. Wikipedia's credibility is a real issue and I think, with regard to spelling and grammar, there is a very low threshold. For one, they are more noticeable than factual errors, although in the long run it will be the errors that really burn wikipedia, if they persist. Please excuse any spelling or grammatical errors :) David D. (Talk) 23:13, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
More spelling and grammar
[edit]After a comment you made on another users page, "And yeah I didn't know my english was that bad", i thought I might add some contructive (I hope you see it that way) comments about your user page. At present you have the following paragraph.
- I am a harsh but kind deletionist so I place deletion tags that I belive that the articles deserve it Ex:Bushhitler close obvious Keep Articles and edit some sports pages. I normally edit on my night time. I have a interest for reverting vandalism after I found a page getting vandalised in front of me which is acually hard work without a revert button to work with and welcoming users which I never got welcomed.
If I was to edit your user page, I will not :), I would change it to the following.
- I am a harsh but kind deletionist. In this role, I will place a deletion tag on articles that I believe deserve them, for example: Bushhitler, I will close obvious Keep articles and edit some sports pages. I normally edit during the night. I have become interested in protecting articles from vandalism, after I witnessed a page being vandalized, although reverting vandalism is actually hard work without the use of a revert button. I am also interested in welcoming new users since I was never formerly welcomed to wikipedia.
Now this paragraph may also have grammatical flaws, few are perfect, but I hope it will help you see how your sentence structure is quite fragmented. In places you have used tenses incorrectly and there are spelling/typo errors too. I hope you find this helpful. :-) By the way, welcome to wikipedia!!! David D. (Talk) 23:36, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
Rfa
[edit]Hi, I was reluctant to oppose your Rfa because I feel you will be a very good admin soon. Just wait a bit and let it happen :-). If you renominate any time after 1/1/2006, please let me know because I'd certainly expect to support then. Good luck and don't take any negative comments on your Rfa personally. Thanks for offer of nomination but not right now - maybe I'll reconsider in 3-6 months (if I'm still around then). Dlyons493 Talk 01:37, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for the support for my (non-existent) adminship. My voting 'oppose' was nothing personal, for better or for worse I'm a bit of a stickler on timelines! But like I said to Xoloz, with under a thousand edits in two years of Wikipeding my RfA would be one grand waste of time thanks to the votes of edit count worriers. But I appreciate the sentiment. All the best!!
[edit]Hi Jorge, excuse me for this tardy reply. I do hope that my Oppose vote is not taken by you personally. As far as spelling and grammar go - they are no big deal, 'coz one can improve these very fast. English is not my first language - still, I've been able to learn it. Since it is your native language, I believe that you'd easily master the grammar. Give yourself some time till March and you'd definitely improve on the spelling and grammar bit. I too fight vandalism in my own, small way and I too do not hv a rollback button. I do hope that access to roll-back buttons is easily available. [edit]Hi Jorge, I just happened noticed that your having problems with vandals, and that your taking a wikibreak, so I'm here to offer you a joke hopefully will will bring your stress level down :-D

"Not exactly," his friend replies. "She's more into the trick dog aspect of it." "Oh I see. Kinky stuff huh?" "No, whenever I make a move, she's most likely to roll over and play dead!"

Your criticism of me to others
[edit]I find it unfortunate, you chose to say this about me. It's quite untrue. Spreading false info about people to others is hurtful. If you have a problem with me, please tell me before you tell others. I'm always open to constructive criticism. I have improved many more school articles than I created (see my edit history for proof). And, if a school is on my watch list, I'll revert any vandalism I see. And a very large number are on my watch list. Compared to more famous articles, the level of vandalism of school articles on my lengthy watch list is pretty modest (with a few problem cases, I repeatedly fixed). Most schools that have been AFD'd are on that watch list, so it's not like I vote to keep and forget. In fact, I frequently improve the article before and after the vote (as well as others that were never AFD'd). As far as school articles, I've made, there's been incredibly little vandalism to repair. Wikipedia could do a lot more to prevent vandalism, like focussing on the actual vandals. But, I respect your right to your opinion about school articles, but not your opinion of me, which I find pointlessly hurtful. Also, please notice how I am sending you this message directly, rather than going around to other people's talk pages, to say bad things about you. --rob 00:03, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
Responed about it in your talk page.
- Thank you very much for the reply/retraction, I really appreciate it. Vandalism is my number one concern here, and sneaky vandalism (aka hoaxes) is probably my obsession. I hope we and others can work together on thinking of ways to fight it better, and that means more than just reversions. Also, I won't speak of any specific AFD conributors (I would have to carefully examine edit history first). But, I think we agree, that people shouldn't just say "keep and expand" unless they periodically actually expand/improve/fix the articles. My personal view, is that, our edits speak for us, far more then our AFD votes/comments do. I think I show what school articles should be, by my edits (create/improve), and I think all school supporters should speak with their edits more than their votes. --rob 00:26, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

AOL block
[edit]Someone using AOL and apparently IPs very similar to yours just went on a spree of user / user talk page vandalism. They used a different IP each time, and I blocked them all for 15 minutes. If there is a specific one that affects you, I will unblock it. :) -Greg Asche (talk) 02:37, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
- Just curious, Aranda, but if the AOL IP blocks are affecting you, how come you're able to edit this page? Are the blocks just affecting specific pages, where the IP stays the same? Thanks. Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 02:38, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
- TimStarling (I think) wrote a feature (probably while at Wikimania) so that blocked users can still edit their talk pages. BTW, since I keep edit conflicting with you, some free advice: It is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. [edit]Hey, on 20:24, 22 Oct 2005 I also have seriously considered leaving wikipedia, and I most certainly would if it wasn't for the dicouragement from a number of users.
I agree, there is a fatal flaw. Vandals, trolls and malactors are given respect and are even protected somewhat in some circles. There is A reason to continue here. Resistance isn't futile. We must resist vandals, trolls and malactors who often disguise themselves as if they are here to do anything usefull.

Hi, I have removed the speedy deletion tag from this. It's not incoherent and it likely is spam, but, there is no provision of CSD for that, so I'm afraid it needs to get a VfD. If you want to make a case for it I'd listen, but I don't think I've ever seen any criterion which fits its case. gren グレン 06:13, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

Could you please revisit the discussion, read my comments there and consider changing your vote?
I think two reasons used to delete this are faulty:
- This list includes information which would be lost if categorized. Categories cannot list the date and manner of death in a organized manner as lists do. Categorizing would lose the info.
- Wikipedia is not a memorial doesn't apply as that rule is for people who do not deserve an article. These people played major roles in the American Civil War and therefore do not fall under the memorial clause of WP:NOT. They already have articles, and lists listing closely related people should not be deleted because they happen to be dead.
Thanks for your attention. - Mgm|(talk) 10:09, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
