Vincent N. Schiraldi directs the Program in Criminal Justice Policy and Management at Harvard University's Kennedy School and leas the school's Project for Justice in a New Century, a policy reform and research effort. Formerly, he was the Commissioner of the Department of Probation for New York City, Director of the District of Columbia Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services Department and the Founder and Director of the Justice Policy Institute. He also served as an Adjunct Associate Professor at New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and Silver School of Social Work. Since the mid-1980s, Schiraldi has advocated for systemic changes in juvenile and adult justice and corrections systems, including broader use of alternatives to incarceration and evidence-based practices, sentencing reform and reducing racial and ethnic disparities in justice and corrections systems.

Early years

Schiraldi was born in 1959 and grew up in the Greenpoint, Brooklyn in New York City, New York. He graduated from Regis High School (New York City) (1977) and earned academic degrees from SUNY Binghamton (1981), New York University Silver School of Social Work (M.S.W., 1983).

Career

Schiraldi served as the Director of the District of Columbia Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services from _______ to _______. Under his leadership the District of Columbia's juvenile justice system underwent significant reforms. Also, Schiraldi currently serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and Silver School of Social Work.
