Confusion

[edit]

Moved from the main page: This seriously confuses the poet of the single famous poem on Han Shan Temple with the far more important Zhang Ji 籍, whose dates were in fact c. 766-c.830. My book, CLOUD GATE SONG, referred to below, is on the latter. This Zhang Ji (Zhāng Jì / 張繼) is indeed not the Tang Three Hundred poet Zhāng Jí (張籍); however, it is worth fixing and retaining this article if he wrote even one famous poem. Dcattell (talk) 16:29, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I may be wrong about the above. The Quantangshi credits the Tang 300's poem #273 to this Zhang Ji (of Hubei):
卷242_19 《楓橋夜泊(一作夜泊楓江)》張繼

  月落烏啼霜滿天,江楓漁父對愁眠。

  姑蘇城外寒山寺,夜半鐘聲到客船。

As does the [of Virginia's E-text version of the Tang 300]. Further, [Chinese Wikipedia] seems to be in agreement. However, the [online version] gives credit for this poem to the other Zhang Ji (張籍) "(poet from Jiangnan)". I think the weight of evidence clearly favors (Zhāng Jì / 張繼) "of Hubei" with being the author of the two Tang Three Hundred poems. Dcattell (talk) 18:44, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Part of the possibility for confusion here lies in the fact that both Zhāng Jì from Hubei and Zhāng Jí from Jiangnan each had one poem notably included in the Tang 300: Zhāng Jí of Jiangnan's poem is #151 "沒蕃故人" Dcattell (talk) 19:07, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mahler poem

[edit]

The Mahler poem is by Qian Qi (錢起). It is Quantangshi 卷236_23 《效古秋夜長》:
