Linkfarm

[edit]

Not wanting to make a drastic edit without consensus so bringing it here. I think we need to delink the individual hotels from the list at the bottom. The article should be about the show itself and not be used as a source of advertising for the hotels involved. Jasynnash2 (talk) 12:56, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I disagree, the links allow the reader the choice to compare/contrast the fortunes and progress of the hotels featured in the show by visiting their up-to-date websites. Considering that the show aims to spot the flaws in these hotels I cant see how this page would 'advertise' them. Of course if individual wiki pages are created for the hotels they should be linked instead of the hotel website Bleaney (talk) 22:06, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • This has been done for the Langtry Manor Hotel. As the hotel has it's own wiki article its best to use that link rather than the hotel's own website. Bleaney (talk) 22:31, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I've removed all the external links per WP:LINKFARM and WP:ADVERT. Having links to every single place makes this page seem like a huge advertisement, if nothing else. — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 16:38, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • As I have already stated previously, the links allow the reader the choice to compare/contrast the fortunes and progress of the hotels featured in the show by visiting their up-to-date websites. The shows aim to spot the flaws in these hotels, so I cant see how this page would 'advertise' them. As previosuly stated, if individual wiki pages are created for the hotels they should be linked instead of the hotel website, as is the case for the Langtry Manor hotel. If someone wants to look up their particular progress, then they can Google the names of the places. It's still a violation of WP:LINKSPAM, namely: "Adding external links to an article or user page for the purpose of promoting a website or a product is not allowed, and is considered to be spam." Adding the links is explicitly for promoting the websites. If you don't like this, then we can take it elsewhere. — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 19:10, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see you've reverted my edits. That's fine - I've requested a 3O. — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 19:12, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As stated before, the programme (have you ever seen it?) aims to expose the flaws of these hotels, so them qualifying as an advertisement is tenuous. You seem well prepared to 'fight' on these kind of issues, so do what you have to do. Bleaney (talk) 19:16, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Third Opinion - I have to agree with Hello Annyong on this one. Though the show does aim to spot the flaws in the hotels, it also tries to turn them around and make them successful. This makes the links borderline spam, because in the end, the goal of the show is to improve and promote the hotels. Given that WP:LINKFARM does discourage excessive amounts of links, and the fact that the links are questionable in whether they are spam or not, they should be removed from the article, and should be replaced with internal links, if possible. Also, the show's website, or google, could be used to find more information on the progress of individual hotels, if a reader was that interested. ƒingersonRoids 22:57, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
