The book: "Tascam: 30 Years of Recording Evolution" By Randy Alberts (page 15) states that Katsuma Tani worked for the "Tokyo Television Acoustic Company". This implies that he was not a founder of this original company. The book goes on to state that Katsuma's interest in reel-to-reel tape recorders started in 1956 when his brother Tomoma Tani brought home a hand made 3-motor, 3 head stereo tape recorder. I(born 1950) acquainted TEAC in the first place as a producer of computer devices (floppy disk devices}. And I had to conclude that these devices had excellent quality. I also now have to conclude that that devices don't exist anymore.
