Restored...

[edit]

Stupidly, I did not check the history before I began the project to create a massive Disambig page for Salem. Harumph. Just for everyone's info, however, take note that there used to be an old version of the disambig page, see version as of 00:56, February 27, 200. User:Salemarea then completely rewrote the page to refer to Salem (Virginia Beach), Virginia. See version as of 18:52, March 18, 2006. I then rewrote as a disambig (again, without knowing it had been previously). See version as of 19:44, March 18, 2006. --Wolf530 01:48, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion Requested: Primary Topic

[edit]

I haven't found any discussion on why this page should or should not remain a disambiguation page. I'm under no impression that the status quo will change, but I feel like the subject is notable enough to warrant a discussion of whether one page meets primary topic status or none do. From what I see on the page, it appears that the to candidates for becoming a primary topic are Salem, Massachusetts and Salem, Oregon. The city in Massachusetts is notable for the Salem Witch Trials and having been a major city and port early in and at one time being more influential and prominent than nearby Boston. The city in Oregon however is still a capital and has a modern political significance and is notable year round and not merely around Halloween. I would like to hear others' opinions on the matter. I don't believe either of them would be more of aprimary topic than the pther, for the exact reasons you have outlined. Keeping this as a dab page seems wholly appropriate. Beeblebrox (talk) 22:04, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If there were to be a primary topic, I'd want it to be Salem (Bible), but that only goes to confirm Beeblebrox's view that keeping it as a dab page is the right option. SamuelTheGhost (talk) 22:25, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, if you take a look at Salem, Tamil Nadu you will see that city has a population in excess of 800,000, i.e. considerably bigger than either of the two American cities. It's very clear all round that there is no primary topic!  — Amakuru (talk) 12:36, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
