Oblates and Jesuits?

[edit]

I came to this article hoping to find teh name/link for Father Blanchet; to my surprise only American/Protestant missionaries are mentioned; why none of those already active, namely the Oblates and teh few Jesuits in the region, and/or the Anglican and other British missionaries?Skookum1 (talk) 19:08, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, for one thing I'm in Nova Scotia these days and just don't have the resources - libraries, used bookstores, browsing in used bookstores etc. For another it was just an observation about this article's content vs its title; but even if it were Missionary activity in the early Pacific Northwest I'd still be stuck with not knowing enough directly about the priests and their various acts of clerical derring-do and what I do know of them is from their activities in BC after Oregon become unwelcome turf. Like I said, I was just dropping by looking for info here to add re another aritcle elsewhere. There's bits on DeSmet and Fouquet and Blanchet and LeJeune and the otehrs out there but most of what I come across about them - because I'm reading BC-side histories - ahs to do with BC. At this piont I can't even venture to insert a brief sentence listing those who worked in Oregon - actually I don't know their first names in some cases, knowing htem as Father this and Father that. IMO in any case a wider regional article makes more sense in the long run - and don't tell me to write it, it's just an idea! - and that Oregon-only topics which actually involve the rest of the region are inherently limiting; but if you're going to have an "Oregon missionaries" article it seems odd to only start in 1843.Skookum1 (talk) 14:34, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
