Muhammad Ahmad

[edit]

Under Muhammad Ahmad, the final sentance "Omdurman, a suburb of Khartoum, was the scene of the bloody battle (2 September 1898) in which British forces under Sirdar Horatio Kitchener defeated the Mahdist forces defending the city." seems irrelevant - it was years after his death, and its importance is unclear. Perhaps replace with something like "Muhammad Ahmad died later that same year, but the Mahdist state he created lasted until 1899." ? -- Beardo 21:25, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

al-Mukhtar

[edit]

An anon keeps adding al-Mukhtar. According to the page he doesn't appear to be a Mahdi claimant. If someone is more familiar with the subject please explain and add a well written summary, as I have never heard of this individual. Cuñado - Talk 06:25, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

according to the wiki page, Many Muslims hold Mukhtar a liar who claimed prophethood. 2A01:CB0C:CD:D800:D458:C1B4:1AFA:842B (talk) 08:54, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Juhayman al-Oteibi

[edit]

To my knowledge, Juhayman al-Oteibi did not claim to be the Mahdi. He was the ringleader of a group in which a man he first met in prison, Muhammad bin Abdullah al-Qahtani, proclaimed himself the Mahdi at Oteibi's urging. Note that Qahtani's names accord with the prophesies relating to the Mahdi (that he will share the name and father's name of the Prophet). One source which confirms this account is Lawrence Wright's recent book "The Looming Tower", which contains a detailed account of the Mecca revolt of 1979. He uses the spelling Utaibi for Juhayman.

Dan Ross

[edit]

I am Dan Ross. My addition to being a claimant to be the Mahdi was deleted. My evidence is direct, and non controversial. The outcome is controversial, as it overturns the world order, but the facts leading to that conclusion are not. My being the real Mahdi of course as already foretold in prophecy will have my assertion denied, as proven already by being deleted. “As in the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the son of man.” Only eight people upheld Noah, the other billions denied him. So far as it was, it is again today. Can you be one of the rare few that do not deny, and will not delete? Do you site prophecy that forces you to delete me, or do you do it independently because those in the Days of Noah were degenerates. Facts are facts, and just because the facts are disagreeable to the typical reader does not mean one should use indiscriminate bias to delete the truth. Here is my web site, which is not self promotional, but simply does what God assigned me to do: http://home.earthlink.net/~donutnous/ My email address is found in that link. Please reply via email as well.

My apologies if my site was deleted for another reason, one simple to correct, and not done as stated above. After being denied, and hated for 13 years, one begins to simply, by force of habit, respond in the manner I have done. I find my courtesy is typically returned with lies, and hatred so now I am a bit defensive. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Danross (talkcontribs)

Wikipedia has guidelines that govern content. Articles must be well referenced, not original research, non-promotional, etc. See WP:NOR. Just because you claim to be the Mahdi, doesn't mean that you meet the requirements for inclusion on the page. First you need to become important. The link to your homepage is meaningless in this argument. Cuñado - Talk 00:18, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Your reasoning is unclear. What does it mean, for you, to be important? Be on TV, talked about by millions? Is that what makes a human being important? Sure, Dan is obscure. That is just one of the signs of the Mahdi! He who is the Toast of the Town can obviously not be the hidden one. 2A01:CB0C:CD:D800:D458:C1B4:1AFA:842B (talk) 08:51, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Read my web site, and you will see by various proofs I am more important than any human has been in history for quite sometime. Here is my website, which proves it: http://home.earthlink.net/~donutnous/ Unfortunately one will need to think, like does a scientist. You gave no basis whatsoever to say what I have is meaningless, unless you say that truth is the basis for lies, and lies are the basis for truth. My site shows that Muslims think that a person reading a book that does not exist proves they are correct to say that the person reading the imaginary book is Mohammed. Yes, what I just said there sounds insane, and yet I am not the one doing it. I merely tell you what about 1 billion people are doing. Read my site, and see a world gone mad, just like you people saying things about me that you can not support. I really don't care if you people wish to say that people who can not prove they are the Mahdi, as history shows what the Mahdi will do, and what has come to be by these frauds does not line up, are canditates to be shown in wikipedia. You only want frauds to be noted. So good, then leave me out. You people are lunatics if you persist in your illogical thought process. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Danross (talkcontribs)

Who are you Dan Ross? Imam Mahdi has signs like his face appearing on the moon, sun and Black Stone of Kaaba. Moreover HE will be able to turn stones into gold and raise the dead. Can you do it?

--ChJameel (talk) 15:03, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He shall be known by his inability to spell. This is one of the Signs. 2A01:CB0C:CD:D800:D458:C1B4:1AFA:842B (talk) 08:52, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

21st century

[edit]

This entire section appears to have been taken verbatim from some sort of published news article. It probably violates copyright law and should be re-written. -- Big Brother 1984 15:25, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to delete this section entirely because there is no information on it. The only one there is Fetullah Gulen, which without source, says that "he claims to be the Mahdi." This is false, as I've researched it myself. -- WiiVolve 01:36, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Muhammad al-Mahdi

[edit]

Should Muhammad ibn Hasan ibn Ali (the Twelver Shi'as' twelfth Imam) be included? --Henrygb 00:38, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It'll cause a lot of controversy, so it's best to just leave him (as) out. Armyrifle 01:52, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He is already in (as nobody responded). Take him out if you think it better. --Henrygb 04:58, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is a list of all the claimants of the Mahdi status, and it does not state as to which one was the righteous, or correct. Most of the Claimant's listed above are still believed to be the righteous ones by many. Thus I don't think that Mohammad ib Hassan Should be removed from the list.Sajjad Arif (talk) 03:11, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gohar Shahi

[edit]

You should add some detail about Riaz Ahmed Gohar Shahi, greatest signs have only appeared for Gohar Shahi and no one else. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.71.68.213 (talk) 23:33, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gohar Shahis claim seem to deviate from the the categories of being a true Mahdi. Many others including Bangladesh's Delwar Hossain Sayeedi (who does not claimed to be the Mahdi and is accused of war crimes [1]) have had their faces on the moon and those images circulated by their followers for political purposes. [2] They are clearly photoshopped images. So there may be personal opinions but facts are facts.

Master Fard Muhammad

[edit]

If someone could be bothered perhaps some information on Wallace Fard Muhammad could be put in here as well 124.168.23.182 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 06:28, 20 March 2010 (UTC).[reply]

It appears so because it seems he introduced Ahmadi to Elijah Muhammad, so his name could be included in the list. Prophet Muhammad mentioned of at least 30 pretenders. But it may also mean the major ones. (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 10:29, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Eliyahu HaKohen

[edit]

The section on Eliyahu HaKohen is new and he appears to be a guy in California with no followers. I recommend we remove this section as it is not noteworthy enough. (He has an Official MySpace page and his only friends are various fake profiles of royal figures. His "official" website has received less than 10,000 views in the three years it has been up.) Plus, it was obviously written by Eliyahu HaKohen himself, and violates various Original Research and POV rules. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.2.59.65 (talk) 22:07, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Diponegoro

[edit]

As far as I know, the concept of 'Ratu Adil' is not based on Islamic teaching. Besides, 'Ratu Adil' is nation (in specific, 'javanese nation' as it was thought by King Jayabaya who prophecied it) leader but doesn't have to be religious leader. I do not agree if Diponegoro was considered as (Islamic) Mahdi claimant. I recommend his name to be removed from the list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ridwan Nurhayat (talkcontribs) 08:44, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Added Muqtada al-Sadr

[edit]

Now back up... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wnicholas70 (talkcontribs) 18:50, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Chronological list?

[edit]

Is this really the best way to do it or should we do it buy sect? --88.111.129.157 (talk) 14:43, 16 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

216th Century

[edit]

Muad'Dib is wise in the ways of the desert. Muad'Dib creates his own water. Muad'Dib hides from the sun and travels in the cool night. Muad'Dib is fruitful and multiplies over the land. Muad'Dib we call 'instructor-of-boys.' That is a powerful base on which to build your life, Paul Muad'Dib, who is Usul among us. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:189:4203:1A2D:8114:23D1:68C5:3B38 (talk) 08:32, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It is really funny that for us kafirs the Dune cycle is so obviously based on the Arabic (more properly Caliphatic) cultures, whereas people from that world read the books and fail to make the connection. 2A01:CB0C:CD:D800:D458:C1B4:1AFA:842B (talk) 08:48, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

more than 3,000 Mahdi claimants were in prison in Iran in 2012

[edit]

Were they incarcerated because of that claim, or were the claims incidental (or perhaps associated with other personality traits that typically accompanies the person who ends up in prison)? Is saying that you are the Mahdi the muslim world analog of claiming to be Jesus in the christian world (or saying you're Napoleon, a once-popular affliction)? 2A01:CB0C:CD:D800:D458:C1B4:1AFA:842B (talk) 08:46, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
