Article problems
[edit]The section 2009 election protests says nothing about the Kahrizak prison. It's just a general statement about the events in Iran post-election. I would recommend this section return to its previous edit: "Kahrizak was one of a number of official and unofficial sites that Tehran riot police and Basij members used to detain suspects charged with endangering public safety and national security during the disputed presidential election in 2009."
Similarly, the section Murders and torture of detainees is about prisoner torture and murder post-election without any explicit reference to Kahrizak in the body text or references. I realize that it is difficult to know for sure what happened there but the Persian article previously linked at least provided some testimony of what took place there. It is unfortunate that mainstream foreign press articles have yet to pick up the story but I believe it would be better to return to the previous edit with the Persian reference as a place holder until a better source can be found: "The release of some prisoners from Kahrizak on July 28, 2009 was followed by a number of testimonials in the foreign and opposition press on conditions inside the prison. Various news articles have reported on cramped and squalid cells where prisoners were routinely verbally abused and beaten by guards, some to death. Ahmad-Reza Radan, according to one account, daily took part in these beatings.[1]"
The sections National reactions and Closure and investigations have some muddled and repetitive text, and again most of the sources and quotations are talking more generally about prisoner abuse and not about events inside Kahrizak. It may not be a bad idea to combine these two sections. The previous edit of the "Closures" had tried to more clearly connect up the wider events with Kahrizak: "The revelations of the deaths of several prisoners in late July 2009, including Mohsen Ruholamini, the son of a conservative politician and close ally of pragmatic presidential candidate Mohsen Rezaei, brought greater official attention to the fate of protesters in police custody. Even hardliners in the Iranian parliament who had yet to publicly weigh in on the treatment of the protesters loudly condemned government inaction in the face of prisoner abuse. On July 28, 2009, Ali Khamenei and head of Judicial System, Hashemi Shahroudi announced an order for the closure of the Kahrizak detention center and the release or transfer of the 140 prisoners held there. An Iranian parliament committee investigating allegations of prisoner abuse in the wake of the elections was scheduled to visit the Kahrizak facility shortly before its closure." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.135.121.195 (talk) 18:45, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Open or closed?
[edit]"Ahmadi-Moghaddam on August 5, 2009 stated that the security forces are re-building the Kahrizak facility to meet national prison standards and will re-open its doors in one month": has it been reopened or not? This needs to be updated. Languagehat (talk) 23:03, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
