lacking article yet again
[edit]what you really should do is to include all the similar markings used for same purpose ie HIGHLY VISIBLE 'IFF PAINTINGS/MARKINGS', as the ones used by Germany ie "HOME DEFENCE" and "EASTERn FRONT" 'stripes' or 'markings' whatever pleases you and also Soviets have used the same on ground vehiles so on.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.154.195.225 (talk) 00:45, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- The article is called 'Invasion stripes' and refers mainly to the black-and-white stripes painted on allied aircraft for the Normandy Invasion. If you want to create an article on generic 'Recognition markings' than feel free to start one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.112.86.52 (talk) 11:48, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- In context of current article I think that Z symbol should still stand, but agree with this comment that recognition markings could be split into a seperate article. Currently on Czchekoslovakia and Ukraine would be part of it, if someone wants to point me in the direction of additional information I would be happy to create/split the articles.

Russian ‘Z’ symbol
[edit]Just noticed that at the end of the article it links the Z symbol to the Eastern Military District, should it not be the Western district? The Z is for ‘zapad’ (запад) meaning west and the V for ‘Vostok’ (восток) meaning east! I could be wrong though! 2A00:23C8:5512:FB01:401B:9F8:D23A:84E9 (talk) 17:56, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
Cut content moved to IFF article
[edit]Content cut as 'not invasion stripes,' notably from Russian invasions in Czechoslovakia and Ukraine have been restored to Identification friend or foe under a new heading for low tech systems. I may edit the heading to highly visible painted markings, or something similar. I would still argue that if you want to cut Czech and Ukraine you should cut everything from the cold war as well, as invasion stripes specifically referred to the D-Day invasion.
