2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose).

Yes, although I didn't do that I would be opposed to changing it. If see read the 20 or so pages of talk page archives ( which I don't expect you to but I did). You will see that much of the disagreement between editors revolves around exactly what was said in the lead. Adding sources helped resolve this debate.
