Desiraju citation
[edit]I presume the Desiraju 1989 citation is from this book: Desiraju, G. R.: "Crystal Engineering. The Design of Organic Solids", Elsevier, 1989.
Is this correct? Do you have a page number? Crystal whacker (talk) 22:37, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Evaluation of the current article and proposed plan for adding "Mechanical Properties" section
[edit]The organization of the current article would benefit from a logical progression of ideas in order to make the article more cohesive. For example, crystal engineering can be approached from features at range of length scales, such as molecular structure, intermolecular interactions, crystal structure, and bulk properties. The organization and sections of the current article make it difficult for novice readers to understand the relationships between these topics and how to apply them to materials design. Additionally, the sections of the current article do not clearly outline the design process for crystalline materials or rationalization of their properties using crystal engineering principles, which is the overall goal of the field.
I’m proposing a new section that will guide a reader through the origins and characterization methods for the mechanical properties of a crystalline material. Providing information about the 3 origins of mechanical properties (intermolecular interactions, crystal structure, and lattice defects) will help a reader make connections between observable properties and features at a range of length scales. If a reader can understanding the underlying mechanisms for these properties, they will have a strong foundation for designing a crystalline material with a targeted property. Moreover, an overview of methods for characterizing mechanical properties may help readers understand the results and discussion of journal articles on this topic. The sources I plan to reference come from recent influential studies, reviews or perspectives from leaders in the field, and textbooks. These resources will offer readers a more thorough introduction to designing and understanding the mechanical properties of crystalline materials. Bahanabread (talk) 20:19, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
