[edit]Maidstone is a great place to live, the nightlife and shopping is really taking off but it should be a city and it should have unitary local government to really be able to press on.
Governance
[edit]I have amended the section concerning the wards. They are not the same as the parishes - a fact often confused by editors of Wikipedia. Wards are equal divisions (equal by virtue of the number of voters to the Borough Council); parishes are not. They often followed the one-time ecclesiatical parishes, taking thei name from them. So to say that there is a ward called Downswood and Otham is a simple fact - the whole area is that in local political terms. But they are two quite separate entities as far parish councils are concerned - so the ward cannot be shown as Downswood and Otham. Peter Shearan (talk) 19:30, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
