Rayshaun Benny (born May 8, 2002) is an American football defensive tackle for the Michigan Wolverines.
Early life and high school
[edit]Benny attended Oak Park High School located in Oak Park, Michigan. During Benn's senior season he notched 32 tackles and five and a half sacks.[1] Coming out of high school, Benny was rated as a four star recruit, the sixth best player in the State of Michigan, and the 195th overall player in the class of 2021.[2] Benny also held offers from schools such as Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State and Oklahoma.[3] Initially, Benny committed to play college football for the Michigan State Spartans.[4][5] However, Benny would de-commit from the Spartans and flip his commitment to play for the Michigan Wolverines.[6][7]
College career
[edit]During Benny's first three collegiate seasons from 2021 through 2023, he appeared in 30 games where he totaled 43 tackles with six being for a loss, a sack, two pass deflections, and a forced fumble, including winning a National Championship in 2023 over the Washington Huskies.[8][9][10][11] In week one of the 2024 season, Benny notched five tackles with two being for a loss, and a sack, in a season opening win over the Fresno State Bulldogs.[12]
