"Melangkah Di Atas Awan" (Lit. 'A walk in the clouds' or 'Walking in the clouds'; often shortened to "Melangkah Di Awan") is a song recorded by Indonesian singer-songwriter and actor Ronnie Sianturi of Libels, who portrayed Indra and Yudi. A snippet of the song was first made available in the Indosiar musical television series of the same name on September 11, 1997, before officially released as a single of his compilation album of the same name in 1998 through Musica Studios as the song's distributor. It marked Sianturi's first solo single in three years, since the 1994's "Sudikah Kamu". The song was primarily composed, arranged and produced by Dwiki Dharmawan, with its lyrics penned by Eddy D. Iskandar.[a]
Upon its release, "Melangkah Di Atas Awan" received generally positive reviews by music critics, who complimented popularity on Sianturi's solo career. Commercially, the song peaked at number five on Aneka Top 13 Hits Indonesia, becoming Sianturi's second song to chart. It was also included in the compilation album Collaborating Harmony: Dwiki Dharmawan, performed by Alex Rudiart and released in 2014, marking the first time that the song included on a Dwiki tribute release as part of his thirtieth anniversary celebration.
Background, release and promotion
[edit]Prior to the release of "Melangkah Di Atas Awan", Indonesian singer and actor Ronnie Sianturi debuted his solo career in 1994 with his debut album Sudikah Kamu, which featured a successful single of the same name.[1] In an interview with Surabaya Post on July 21, 1997, when the series' theme song went into development, Peggy Melati Sukma, who portrayed Ayu, revealed that she wrote the initial lyrics for the song.[2] It later eventually released in 1998 on Sianturi's solo compilation album of the same name, nearly three months after the series' premiere.[3]
To promote "Melangkah Di Atas Awan", Sianturi performed the song on various music programs. On January 18, 1998, he performed the song live for the first time on the eighty-eighth episode of the variety show Pentas Sejuta Aksi, in which the show's presenter Becky Tumewu praised his voice and performances.[4][5] Outside of the series' context, he included the song on the set list of Musik Eraku concert, which held at Balai Sarbini on August 5, 2023.[6][7]

On February 6, 2014, the X Factor Indonesia season 1 finalist Alex Rudiart covered "Melangkah Di Atas Awan" for the compilation album Collaborating Harmony: Dwiki Dharmawan, marking the first time that the song was included on a Dwiki's tribute release.[11][12] Kerispatih keyboardist Badai re-arranged it as part of Dharmawan's tribute project in celebration of his thirtieth anniversary.[13] In an interview on Indonesia Morning Show, Rudiart, then only 27, revealed that he was originally chosen to cover Ita Purnamasari's "Deru Debu"; however he decided to perform a cover of "Melangkah Di Atas Awan" instead.[14] This version outlined the perfect fourth up from the key of G to the next C, with a slightly slower tempo of 75 beats per minute.[15] It also received positive reviews, with Rudiart's "dazzling" performance and the arrangement was made different, "fresher" than the original.[16]
