First Lady of Egypt (Arabic: سيدة مصر الأولى, romanized: Sayyidat Miṣr al-ūlá) is the unofficial title of the wife of the president of Egypt.[1]
History
[edit]The position was established on June 18 1953 following the abolishment of the monarchy and the declaration of the republic.[citation needed] It replaced the Queen Consort of Egypt of Egypt as a result.
Naglaa Mahmoud, wife of former president Mohamed Morsi (2012–2013), rejected the title of First Lady, preferring to be called "First Servant," the "president's wife," or "Um Ahmed," a traditional name which means mother of Ahmed, her oldest son.[2][3][4][5]
