Umberto P. Fedeli is a first-generation Italian American Catholic from Cleveland, Ohio. He is the Founder, President and CEO of The Fedeli Group, one of the largest privately held risk management and insurance firms in Ohio. He is highly active in the greater Cleveland community on a charitable, political and civic level. Fedeli is an avid investor in public equities, private equity, banks and other areas.

Early Life and education

Fedeli was born in 1960 in the Collinwood neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio.[1][2], son of Italian immigrant parents[3], and raised in the suburb of South Euclid. He is the oldest of three siblings.

Fedeli attended and graduated from St. Gregory The Great grade school, St. Joseph’s High School and John Carroll University where he received his bachelor's degree in business.

Career

In 1980, at 19, Fedeli entered the commercial insurance business while attending John Carroll University. Upon graduating in 1982, he had formed a partnership at a commercial property and casualty insurance agency, which later became The Fedeli Group[4]

Since 1982, Umberto P. Fedeli has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of The Fedeli Group[4]. The Fedeli Group is one of the largest privately held risk management and insurance firms in the state of Ohio. The firm specializes in risk management, employee benefit consulting, surety and other lines.

Fedeli has been involved in investing in public and private banks and is the co-founder of Strategic Value Bank Partners (SVBP)[5]. He is a co-founder of Virtera Partners which is a private equity alternative platform. He has previously held positions on private, public and non-profit boards.

Community Involvement

Fedeli engages in many political, civic and community activities. He is active in the Italian Catholic community, serving as co-founder and chairman of the Northern Ohio Italian American Foundation (NOIA)[19] and is a member of its Hall of Fame. He is a distinguished fellow on the board of directors of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation[20][21]. He is an honorary member of the Cleveland Catholic Diocese. He is the founder of Cleveland’s Legatus chapter and previously sat on the International Board of Legatus[22]. Fedeli is a former member of Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO)[6] and World Presidents’ Organization and member of the 50 Club[6]. He was named a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem[6][7], administered by the Holy See in Rome, and earned the Ellis Island Medal of Honor[3].

Personal Life

Fedeli met his wife, Maryellen, in 1977 while attending high school and later wed in 1984. They raised five children and are proud grandparents to thirteen grandchildren.[3] Today, he resides in Gates Mills, Ohio.

Fedeli is renowned for his hospitality, from hosting daily luncheons in The Fedeli Group’s dining room to large events at his home and in the community[23]. He helps forge significant and meaningful relationships by bringing people together and creating a unique networking approach.

He is a writer, providing business, investing and life advice.
