Joen Daniel Sachs, born April 2, 1970 in Stockholm[1], is a Swedish business figure, entrepreneur and film producer.

Biography

Daniel Sachs grew up in Stockholm. His father Joen Sachs is a professor of architecture and his mother Lisbeth Sachs Öhrling, is a social anthropologist. His grandfather, Ragnar Sachs, was the CEO of Nordiska Kompaniet (NK). Daniel Sachs' great-great-grandfather, Simon Sachs, came from Germany to Stockholm in the early 1850s to work at Joseph Leja's newly established department store at Regeringsgatan 5.

Daniel Sachs holds an MBA (Master of Business Administration) from the Stockholm School of Economics and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. After his studies, he worked in the private equity firm Segulah during the 1990s. After serving as a board member of the prominent Spray group since 1995, he became the group's CEO from 2000 to 2001, leading a significant restructuring and rescue operation during the dot-com bubble burst.[2][3] Since 2003, he has been CEO of the investment company Proventus AB, where he has led a new expansion programme.

In 2007, Daniel Sachs was named Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. Among his numerous international board roles, he is a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), board member of George Soros' Open Society Foundations, and an advisor to the Europe program at Chatham House in London[4][5][6]

He is also founder of Apolitical Academy, a Swedish political school to stimulate young people's democratic civic engagement.[7] Through the Daniel Sachs Foundation, a number of socially and culturally oriented activities are carried out.[8]

Sachs also became chairman of the Swedish TV channel TV4 in 2005 and was on the board of the Stockholm's Royal Dramatic Theatre from 2009 to 2017.[9] From the 2000 he participated in film production companies, and has acted as executive producer for award-winning films and TV series, including Om Gud vill (2006), Cornelis (2010), and Gräns (2018).
