DAC Studios is a Singaporean independent entertainment company that specializes in film and web show production, as well as Digital Marketing.[1]

The company was founded in 2023 by Kadir Gul and Azzaky Aris. Prior to DAC Studios, Both had worked extensively in the field of digital media. Kadir Gul was working in the field of online marketing under his own company, Creative Studios, for restaurants and small businesses whilst Azzaky Aris was producing online videos on Youtube, under the moniker, AzzyTheEggy. The two originally envisioned a collaboration, incorporating both Creative Studios and DA Productions to produce films together on the side while studying in Nitec in Video Production at ITE College Central but plans would soon change as they would instead co-found the company, originally DA/Creative Studios, to work on their debut short film, The Lighthouse. Starting off in 2023 with The Lighthouse, the company's growth started as they worked on their next short film, Tone Deaf, later that year and debuted their first web series, +65 (2023-present), inspired by New York webseries, Sidetalk and not long after changed their name to just, DAC Studios. In February 2024, the company would publish Erryn Edriyana's Internal[2], a poetry book, available on Amazon to purchase.

The company has worked commercially with brands, including Farrer Park Hospital, Muara Festival, siësta and Chix Hot Chicken.

DAC Studios has developed a reputation locally as a powerhouse in independent film with a passionate team of talent individuals. Each project released defer from the previous as the company adapt everything they learn over their time in ITE College Central into their filmography, improving their visuals as they go.

History

[edit]

(2023-Present)

[edit]

On March 14 2023, Kadir Gul and Azzaky Aris quietly began development on what would have been their first short film, 414. A horror film about a group of 4 and a Ouija Board.

On April 14 2023, Kadir Gul and Azzaky Aris announced the production of 414 with a still from their initial shoot[3]. This project would be the collaboration between Kadir Gul's Creative Studios set to produce with Azzaky Aris' DA Productions to distribute and the duo to direct. The film's first teaser trailer was uploaded on 19 May 2023 on the film's Instagram[4] with promise of the film to be released on 31 October, 2023. On 19 July 2023, The two directors would go on to write a statement updating the public on the development status of the project, stating that the film was going through a creative overhaul and would be extended to be a feature film instead of a short with a release date, 14 April 2024. Development would later be put on hold as allegations against one of the film's actors surfaced online, causing the film's development and release to be delayed once more.

On May 12 2023, the collaboration would go on to turn into a merger, founding DA/Creative (DAC) Studios. They would go on to develop their debut short film, 'The Lighthouse', staring Luna Fitrina and Qistina Rose, as an entry in *SCAPE's National Youth Film Awards 2023. The film initially was to be released on 26 May 2023 with its first trailer on 24 May 2023[5] but these plans were to be put on hold due to the competition's guidelines, restricting them from publishing the film until voting had concluded. The first trailer would instead be published on 29 June 2023[6] with it's second and final trailer following on 28 July 2023[7]. The final trailer would finally reveal the release date for the film to be 25 August 2023. Since The Lighthouse's release, the full film has received over a thousand views, making it the company's first milestone.

In October 2023, An official Instagram page[8] would be created to host announcements and post exclusive behind the scenes content. Not long after, on 18 October 2023, DAC Studios would announce their third film, Tone Deaf, with a poster with a vague image of their lead actor, Audy Ryan as Syam Mirza, alongside a release date of 24 November 2023[9]. On 9 November 2023, the film's second poster would release with it's synopsis and announcing it's inclusion of the discography of local Singaporean band, Hijack Hayley.[10] On 17 November 2023, the first and only trailer released, respectively edited by Danial Rosli[11]. On 22 November 2023, 2 days before the film premiered on YouTube, the company held it's first private screening to family and friends in collaboration with Siësta Singapore.[12][13]

On 11 December 2023, DAC Studios would release the first clip[14] of their next project, a web series titled, +65, with the first episode following later that day[15]. +65 is a singaporean social media show that would utilize a man-on-the-street technique to interview people in Singapore with each episode being approximately one minute and five seconds long. The series takes heavy inspiration from the American web series, Sidetalk, following a very similar format, only filming and uploading when a big event happens. The show has had many notable guests, relevant at the time of each episode's release. The show has garnered over 295K views and 21K Likes on TikTok with a following of over 700 followers collectively on both TikTok[16] and Instagram[17]. Special interviewees include Dee Kosh, Prince De Guzman, Eyelashhhboyy, Guo Lai, Mangobossku, Dayang Nurbalqis and Amir Ahnaf. On 21 January 2024, the company announced that they would be publishing Erryn Edriyana's Internal on 18 February 2024,[18] making it the first book the company has ever produced after working primarily on film production, accompanied by a book launch event held at Siësta Singapore the day before its release.[19]
