Draft:Alvaro Lario
Submission declined on 22 May 2024 by Samoht27 (talk). This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies.

Submission declined on 9 November 2023 by Timtrent (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia. You misunderstand referencing.

Wikipedia cannot accept material copied from elsewhere, unless it explicitly and verifiably has been released to the world under a suitably free and compatible copyright license or into the public domain and is written in an acceptable tone—this includes material that you own the copyright to. You should attribute the content of a draft to outside sources, using citations, but copying and pasting or closely paraphrasing sources is not acceptable. - Comment: It's worth mentioning that the second submitter of this draft, (following the now blocked User:Ruraldevelopmentfuture), has declared a conflict of interest on their userpage. Topic could be notable. Also worth noting is that Lario already has a redlink on the page for the International Fund for Agricultural Development. Considering the conflict of interest and blocked status of the drafts original creator, i'm not sure how to move forward with this draft. Right now, I can't accept it due to it appearing to be written like a resume. -Samoht27 (talk) 16:21, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
Alvaro Lario (born 24 October 1977) is a Spanish economist, serving as President[1] of the United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development since July 2022.[2][3][4][5]
During his Presidency, he has focused on calling attention to the role small-scale farmers play in global food security[6] [7] [8] [9] [10] and encouraged richer countries to invest in building resilient rural communities[11].[12]
At the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2024, he warned that the large number elections around the world in 2024 could derail international efforts to secure long-term food supplies.[13]
UN Water Chair
[edit]In January 2024, Dr Lario was appointed Chair of UN-Water, the body that coordinates the United Nations' work on water and sanitation, by the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, António Guterres.[14]
In March 2024 under Dr Lario's Chairmanship, UN-Water launched the World Water Report, warning growing water inequality is affecting women and girls most.[15]
Early life and education
[edit]Lario was born in Madrid, Spain. He has a Master of Research in Economics from the London Business School, a Master of Finance from Princeton University, and a PhD in Financial Economics from the Complutense University of Madrid.
Career
[edit]Prior to his appointment as IFAD President, he served as Associate Vice-President of Financial Operations at IFAD and, previously, Principal Portfolio Officer at the World Bank's International Finance Corporation.
He was Adjunct Professor at Instituto de Empresa Business School from 2008 to 2011. He began his career in 2006 as Head of Alternative Investments at Renta 4 Banca.
