Mephit Furmeet 1 (a.k.a. MFM1) debuted from August 29 to September 3, 1997 in Memphis, Tennessee at a Howard Johnson Inn. (now an Econo Lodge & Suites)
Organized by local Memphis furry GrowlTiger, MFM originated from a small pizza party gathering previously hosted at a local Best Western.
According to the Anthropomorphic Fandom Convention Information Sheet, first MFM had a total attendance of 68.
Annual T-shirt design contest[edit]
Loran Skunky was the winner of the popular vote for the first T-shirt design.
